32-bit applications run OK on W7, but 16-bit (old) applications don’t.

;JOOP!

The PLG150 Editors date back to Windows 95… you have to realize that we are quite a bit distant from that era. Computers hardly run anything from back then. The PLG150 boards date back to 1997 and were discontinued in 2007 - at some point you just have to move on. Your computer (certainly) has… :)

If it was an easy thing to do, it would have been done already. I’m sure it is a matter of priorities, what must be done trumps what would be a nice to do. That is a business reality in these times. But I’m sure it is on a “TO DO” list somewhere.

At some point the demand for a particular item or technology, no matter how awesome, just dictates that it doesn’t make sense to do it any longer. And take different direction.

The PLG150 series worked through a remarkable 10+ years and served a wide variety of products from the S-series, the CS-series, Motif & Motif ES, the MU-series, the all the XG products that used them - for a product that is fantastic. Eventually the changes in hardware and the development of new feature/functions dictates a change. The operating system revision and direction taken in the XS, for example, moved away from the PLG (plug-in) system completely. It was deemed time to do so.

The PLG150 boards that were sample playback technology were like mini AWM2 Yamaha synth engines. With the same kind of 4 Element architecture (even though your access to those individual Elements was minimal), but it was the same as the host product. It really was a little version of a synth on a plug-in board.

The PLG150 boards that were alternate technologies (AN, DX (FM), and VL) each had a completely different set of edit parameters and rules to follows.

Well, the advantage of having an 8 Element architecture just simply was such a tremendous step-up in terms of how detailed a Motif XS Voice could sound. And you have to contrast this with the previous 4 Element architecture.

I think the number of oscillators in a VOICE, can be a huge factor in how “playable” you can make a sound. If you study the VOICES in the XS and XF and MOX (8 Elements voices) you find that it is not about layering Elements, but more about using those additional elements to recreate some very unique performance gesture in playing that instrument. The particular Element can receive instructions on when to sound according to ‘how’ you play and/or use the available controllers.

I think it is why the Motif-series and MOX sound so good in comparison to synthesizers in their classification. It is that detail and the ability to control that detail at the individual VOICE program level.

Hi,
They all show up if you install the 32 bit version of studio manager on the 64 bit version of Windows.
Have you tried this?

Uh, thanks for your contribution, but this ‘old’ thread is from July, 2011, so I’m not sure how much use your information is to the OP now. :)

Hi,
They all show up if you install the 32 bit version of studio manager on the 64 bit version of Windows.
Have you tried this?

Is it possible to have both the 32 & 64 bit versions of Studio Manager installed on Windows 7/64 bit as the same time?

In the past I installed the AN editor, DX Simulator & VL editors on my computer in a vain attempt to interface with PLG boards in my MU128 and recently installed the 64 bit version of Studio Manager to work with my Motif XF.  It would be great if I could get them all working.

Thanks,
