Just got my MOX8 and am trying to get it connected to the computer/Cubase.  I downloaded the latest usb driver from Yamaha for Windows 7 64bit.  Followed the procedures exactly in the documentation (ie. sequence of actions) and continually get the error 25001 “No Device is Connected.” On the MOX I went to Utility and conmfirmed the midi in/out is set to USB.

I was suprised to learn Yamaha’s website does not have much (well any) documentation/support/FAQs for this brand new product.  Did not even come with a registration insert in the box compared to an Arius I recently bought.

Hopefully I can get some assistance, but for now I am more than happy checking out all the voices and arps.

The accessories that should come with your MOX8 are as follows:

• AC adaptor*
• USB cable
• Owner’s Manual
• Online Manual CD-ROM x 1 (Reference Manual, Synthesizer Parameter Manual, and Data List)
• DVD-ROM x 1 (containing DAW software)

* May not be included in your area. Please check with your Yamaha dealer.

in order to provide you with help we really need to know the driver name and version. The ‘latest’ is not always the correct driver.

You wanted to download the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver version 1.3.0 not the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver or any other.

The ‘latest’ will depend on where you are looking and at type of driver you are looking for.

the correct driver is found here:
The official Yamaha MOX driver download site

Let us know you have the correct driver then we can begin troubleshooting.

And as a note… it really depends on where in the world you are as to what you get with your MOX. If you are in the US you should have gotten a “STOP - READ THIS FIRST!” notice that would bring you here to Motifator.com and to the official Yamaha Synthesizer site, and how to contact Yamaha Technical Support.

Thanks, it seems my documentation led me to the wrong driver, but I am connected and functional now.

Now where can I find some good step-by-step tutorials for beginners to Cubase?  Or could someone recommend a good beginner software for song creation.

Thanks again!

There are excellent tutorials on the installation disc for Cubase AI… start with them.

We will be posting some step-by-step tutorials here on Motifator that deal with using the MOX6/MOX8 sequencer, and then transferring audio to Cubase.

there are many different workflows available… we will try and introduce you to several.

Rather unhelpfully the UK Yamaha site driver, is version 1.22 dated 2009, which doesn’t work. I spent a few hours tracking down 1.3 on the USA site.

Sorry for the confusion… but

The driver you found version 1.22 is not the driver for the MOX (2011). That is the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver. (Which is a MIDI ONLY driver).

The driver you want is called Yamaha Steinberg USB version 1.30 and is a combination Audio/MIDI driver (released May 11, 2011).

USA site?

There is one official YamahaSynth site (you should bookmark it):

http://www.yamahasynth.com

This is located in Japan (but it is in English for your reading pleasure).

The official download page for all things MOX6/MOX8

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this I followed the links that were in the packaged information in my original box. This needs to be rectified and the links you give clearly identified. Thanks anyway for your comment.
