Hello, Motifator Fam!

I just uploaded a video reviewing the brand new Yamaha MoX 8.  Because my time was limited, my goal was to go over the most common questions posted here on the Motifator forums.  I go over the sound quality, keybed action, polyphony drop out concerns, overall build quality, etc.

Even though it was my first time ever touching this synthesizer, I was still able to get around on the Yamaha MoX 8 just fine.  I had no problems with maneuvering on the MoX 8.  I was recording in pattern mode without much effort.

Check out my video and let me know what you guys think?

Thanks!

Jeff

Thanks for the review. I think your video is actually the first one without that “annoying” demonstrator Bert S who makes funny faces all of the time while trying to convince you how great the machine is. The MoX looks sturdy and very nice looking, the black keys seem to have a matte finishing which is good, the operation controls seem to be well thought of.

I would kindly ask you if you could share your observations regarding the keyboard action in written form here on the forum as I am not quite sure I understood what you said (English is not my mother language). As far as I understand, you imply the MoX 8 action is on the light side and is comparable to the CP-5. I’ve tried the CP-5 and, although I loved its sound, I thought the action is far too light for what I would like to perform on it. The local store is not going to have a floor model MoX until autumn. Could you compare the action of the MoX-8 to the P95? I tried out the P95 and found it quite convenient. Both keyboards have the GHS action but this actually does not mean their keyboards feel the same.

Thanks.

Troll.

The keyboard action is good.  It just feels to the light side for me because I have a Yamaha P120 at home (which I love).  The keyboard action doesn’t feel cheap at all.  I would imagine a lot of it is whatever you get use to.  The unit feels nice.

The weight of the keyboard is really awesome.  Now that I think about it I didn’t emphasize the benefits of the weight enough, but I was running out of time at Guitar Center.  For an 88 key weighted action keyboard the weight is awesome and you add the Motif XS sound engine and a built in audio interface, I think you have a pretty awesome package.

Honestly, I think a lot of the little designs items that you might over look is what’s going to make this keyboard awesome.  i.e. the dedicated fader for the USB audio interface and it has some LED lights for metering as well.  I felt pretty much right at home with the sequencer.  Yesterday was my first time with the MoX8 and I was able to get around on it without a manual.

I think this keyboard is a sure win for the market it is aimed at.  The sound quality is awesome, built in USB audio interface, overall build quality, etc.

Thanks for that awesome demo… I wonder if you saw the MOX 6 in the store.  I would be very interested in your thoughts on that keyboard.  I’m already sold on the MOX 8 for our church as soon as we can get it!

Guitar Center did no have the MoX 6 in stock, yet.  The more I think about it, this keyboard is awesome for somebody that’s constantly on the move.  I guess that’s why some call it the mobile Motif.

Honestly, although I already have a Motif XF I am seeing many uses I can have for the MoX series.
