I have a problem with my Smartmedia card in the Cs6x synth. When i put the card in the synth,it says Card unformatted, then i go to format the card and it stops at 20% and says Bad Card! on the screen of the keyboard. But the card works well in the card reader of my pc.What is going on and what can i do to fix this.Until yesterday night it worked fine.I tried to update my OS of Cs6x and forgot to take the card out of the synth before update, and after the update,it always say this message “Bad Card” on the synth, preventing the synth to completely format the card!Any ideas?

Try reformatting on your computer if you have a card reader.

I did that 5 times at least but nothing happens.I even defragmented the card from the card reader but nothing happens. The same message comes out and i cant format the card in the synth. If i put another card in the synth, and connect it to the pc with midi cables and use Card filer program, can i sent wav data from the pc to the card through the midi cables?

Smart Media Cards never have to be formatted (again).
But those have been proved to be very unreliable and vulnerable.
You just got a bad card.

Buy another one, don’t ever format it but use it,
or buy a SMC-XD adapter ($9) and some 128Mb XD’s ($12).
Problems gone.

sciuriware have you tried the SM to XD adapter? Is it for sure that this will work? How about 2Gb XDcards? Will this synth read a 2gb xd card if i put it to the adapter? It is hard to find an 128mb XD card now!

Just put such a card into the PC (card reader),
create a partition of 128 Mb on it and that’s what the Yamaha will see
and work with.

Not guaranteed to work everywhere and always, but several people
said it works fine.
