Hello,

I’m very interested in this and it makes me wanting a Motif XF!
Has anyone here played the Motif GPO library? Comments?

Are there any Demos of this library?

Thank you.

There’s usually audio samples for those libraries. Why not for this one? Maybe they just haven’t had time to put them up yet ...

I own the Garritan personal orchestra, jazz band and concert band libraries for computer and I am very pleased with them.  I don’t own them for the XF, but I think I saw on the website that the XF library is a bit of a lighter version than the full standalone library that goes on a computer.  Check out the voice list, and see if it will do for you.  Don’t forget, there is so much depth in the programming on the XF, you can tweak this library to make it suitable for your needs.  I think it would be a nice compliment to the existing XF voices.

If you go the Garritan site, you will be able to hear demos of the library - although not the XF version, you will still hear the quality of the samples, which I think is a quality orchestral collection.

Good luck.

@mikeys:

Where is this voice list you talk about?

Of course I checked the demos on Garritan site long before, but this does NOT give us an impression of what is in the MOTIF GPO Lite Library. Surely they had to leave out a lot of samples and they made shorter loops to save some memory space.

Also I think the Motif library sounds a bit different because they programmed the sounds using the motif sound engine and not the pc softwareplayer. Hopefully they focussed on usability for live playing, too.

Yamaha should promote this library more because it seems Fantom G and M3 can not compete with these orchestral sounds! There must be a lot of potentional buyers how simply don’t know about Motif’s GPO advantage!

As we worked a good deal on the conversion of this library we can tell you a good deal about it.

We did not re-loop anything so the samples that are included are the same size and quality as GPO.

There were some things which were not included.  Because the Motif XS/XF already had many of the orchestral drum sounds these were not included.

Basically we took the GPO library and converted the waves using Chicken Systems, tweaked some mapping and the wrote new Voices using the Motif engine.

We will be demoing these libraries at the NAMM show so there should be NAMM videos up ina few days and we have been talking with Garritan about getting some demo done.

The voice programming was a combination of Yamaha, Garritan and Dave Polich from DCP produuctions so we think you will eb happy with the result.

Thank you for this detailed information, Yamaha_US!

That sounds VERY promising. Looking forward to NAMM, the demo and hopefully a complete voice and sample list. Finally we get a workstation with a finished complete orchestral library of great quality!

It’s great to have new third-party sample libraries for the Motif XF i.e. GPO4 for Motif XF !

I’m looking forward to see more third-party developers, and possibly YAMAHA as well, releasing new sample libraries for the Motif XF.  I will be upgrading from the Motif XS7 to the Motif XF7 pretty soon.

Thanks.

Who will buy this without any demo? I’m not asking for a genius complete orchestration wonder track.

At least a complete voice/sample list and some single voice melody demo mp3 should not be that complicated to provide for us…

?

Maybe there’s an even better orchestral library in the works and this keeps Yamaha from promoting the GPO Lite...?

Indeed...NAMM was four months ago, where are the demos? I’m ready to buy but not unheard.

Hi there,

I purchased GPO lite a few months ago and have to say, this library IMHO is fantastic. The string sections are very realistic in live situations, but, of course you have to tweak them a bit. It’s the same procedure as for brass sounds or funky horns, you simply have to approach like a composer or arranger on the matter and combine multiple sounds, or rather instruments in different octaves, so it sounds realistic. For the “big” orchestral string sounds, I use a section-voice from GPO library, put the same voice - a little bit more quiet - one octave higher and one octave again underneath. Here you go with impressing strings. GPO sounds a lot better than the factory sounds, which are undisputedly very good. This also holds true for the individual instruments, so for violins and cellos especially, with which ones - mixed in carefully - the strings sound even more realistic.
I highly recommend GPO.

DoubleM,

Thanks for the post.  I’m in the same boat as the original poster and am considering this library, but would like to know just a little more about it.  I see it is based on the GPO 4 version, which has a few Project Samm brass instruements in it.  Are these on the XF version?

Any chance you, or perhaps Bad_Mister or Dave could maybe post a voice list for us to see?  I see the categories, but would like a few more specifics if there are not going to be and demos.

Thanks.
