Hi All. With the XS, you can use insert effects on up to 6 tracks I believe. Is it still 6 on the XF or more? Thx CM |

8 tracks in a Mix can have the insert effects turned on - both in the XS and the XF. |

It is 8 PARTS that can simultaneously recall their dual Insertion Effects. Some new features and functions have been added to the base (out-of-the-box) Motif XF that opens the door to some possibilities here. It is possible (particularly since the XF comes with 128MB of SDRAM) to ‘commit’ some PARTS as audio. By committing certain PARTS to audio you will free up processing resources. Here’s a practical example: say you are doing a composition where you are going to overdub a guitar solo Part that requires its INSERTION EFFECTS (Amp Simulator and Overdrive)… this is a perfect candidate; as a PART that will only be active during a particular portion of the composition and will require its DUAL INSERTION EFFECTS. You can reallocate the Effects, record the guitar solo with its full compliment of effects… when you have it exactly as you like… you can print (commit) this guitar solo as audio (with its effects)… This process is called a RESAMPLE. By muting the other tracks you can isolate the guitar solo, resample the guitar Part with its Insertion Effects as audio. You can setup the Integrated Sampler to punch-in and out precisely to create an audio sample plus the note-on event to trigger playback (sample+note) within your SONG or PATTERN. Once printed with its effects you can use the INSERT FX SWITCH to process another PART. Like a real world recording studio, you get to reuse the effects because you are working by multi-tracking (i.e., recording and overdubbing a track-at-a-time). So “8 simultaneous effects” is the specification, but you can use and print effects to tracks, as required, using the Integrated Sampling function of the Motif XF. Also a new feature has been added that allows audio recorded with the Integrated Sampler to be quickly and easily converted into a MIX VOICE. In other words, the SAMPLE VOICE can be converted to ‘local’ MIX VOICE - which can then be edited using the full compliment of Voice parameters (including filters, LFOs, EQ, etc., etc.) |

Bad_Mister, Is it possible for the system effects(chorus and reverb) to automatically follow a sound in to Performance mode like the insertion effects? Basically I’m trying to avoid having to go back to voice mode to figure out what system effects were used for the sound and copy them in manually. I’m wondering if there is a faster way for that. I guess more importantly the question is can I have more than one set of system effects in performance mode? Like a different one per channel. I know this seems like a dumb question considering they’re called “system effects” but I’m wondering if that’s somehow possible and if so is there a way for it to be done automatically or in a quick manner… |

It is the same as its always been. If you would like to make the System Effects of a particular VOICE the System Effects of the Performance you can simply COPY them. This has been true in all the Motif-series keyboards. Once you place a VOICE in a PART of a PERFORMANCE go to [JOB] > COPY > select [VOICE] mark the items you wish to copy from that VOICE to the current PERFORMANCE (Reverb, Chorus, Master EQ, Master FX)
I guess it is important to understand that SYSTEM EFFECTS means what it says, lol. There is only one system. In layman’s terms the INSERTION EFFECTS are those belonging to the individual musician (or sound)… like a guitar player’s stomp box, or the organ players rotary speaker. While SYSTEM EFFECTS recreate “envirmonmental acoustics” from room reverberations to time delays.... so all the musicians share the acoustics of the environment. Hope that helps. |

Thanks, I figured that was the case. Just making sure I wasn’t missing something. What threw me off was a chorus delay effect that was used on a particular guitar sound in voice mode. I wanted it on one sound and not on all channels. Understood though thanks for the response… |
