I’ve gone through some of the threads in the XF. YamahaUS had a great rundown for what it has and does. Some of it may as well have been done in Japanese. So....

Is there or will there be a Comparison Chart for the XS vs XF? That would be helpful for “ME”. How I work and use these workstations, I may not need to make that “jump” to the XF and my plans for the XS can stay in place. I just need something a little simpler to examine.

Also, will there be a DVD demo like the ones done for the previous Motifs?

Just a thought....I guess Yamaha will never please everyone (imagine that). Coming from the Classic and hearing the “shortcommings”, to the ES and the “shortcomings,to the XS and the “shortcomings”, NOW the XF and the “shortcomings”, I wonder what the workstation would cost if all of the “shortcomings” were met? What would the “tag” be for the XF,Nord,Oasy etc in ONE workstation?

Hmmmmm

Dukester, ol’ buddy, good to see ya here again.

Check the “questions and answers” threads here - YamahaUS and Bad Mister
have been answering just about every question under the sun about the XF.

The long and short of it is this:

1.The XF is black and you can change the color scheme of the display.
2.The XF comes with 128MB of RAM standard (so you can load in any sample-based library under 128MB in size).
3.The XF has an optional flash feature - Yamaha Flash boards, which must
be purchased separately. You can install up to 2 flash cards for a
total of 2GB of onboard flash. Sample content can be loaded to the
flash boards (takes a while to do it), and then those samples stay
on the flash boards so you don’t have to reload them again every time
you power up the XF.
4.There are now 4 user banks on the XF.
5.There are a lot of additional ROM sample waveforms, including new drum
kits/percussion, strings, woodwinds, brass (yes the Tyros trumpet shakes are there)sound fx, musical fx, new accordions, and combo organs
like the Farfisa and Vox Continental.
6.Saving and loading has been streamlined and you can now specify what bank you want to load a library to before you load it.
7. Yamaha has been working with third-party developers (like yours truly and others) to bring more content to the XF platform than ever
before, making it the workstation with the most third-party content
and support on earth.
8. Oh yes - it’s black and looks really cool in your studio or on stage.

That’s what immediately comes to mind for me, but I’m sure I’ve forgotten a lot more.

DAVEP!!! I trust all is well with you. Thanks for hitting me back, but then again, you and “The Bad 1” usually do.

I’m going to go back on this thread for YamahaUS and Bad_Mister’s accounts and avoid some of the “noise”. Seems every time a new workstation comes out there will be a lot of “noise”.

The “capsule” you have provided gives me most of my concerns. Guess you know me, my gear and what I “want”. I take it you have provided much of the “additional” Voices.

I need to PM you soon. Need to “catch up”.
Stay well,my friend.

...and then there is “The Bad 1”!!
Thanks, Phil. There are some things I see that might make it worth the “leap” over the XS.
I’ll check it out.
Is there a DVD on the way?

Well, In my case I would buy the XF until I first see on the store and listen to all the voices to see what it sounds like. Sound is the number one thing for me. If I like it and decide to buy it, it will be until the end of 2011 of midway through 2012, I have spend already like $2900 on my XS7, with Mlan, 2 soundsets, and the new pedal.

I think it is going to be awesome - but I still do not understand why the “7” model is so much more expensive than the 6. It is just a couple extra keys....it should only be about $250 more.

Your question has been answered about three years ago when a similar one was posted regarding XS7 price. IIRC this is related to demand for a 76-key board - they don’t sell that good in US. Europe is slightly different though.

And it’s not just a couple of extra keys - it’s a different sized body as well.
