I am asking this for my husband.  The manual is of no use.  How do we hook up a microphone.  There is the input available but we get no sound.  Any help would be appreciated!

my motif 6 dont have a regular mic cable input ( the circle with three prods inside) but it has 2- 1/4” right and left inputs witch should work unless your mic requires phantom power in that case youd need a mic pre-amp

There are several things you need to know in order to use a microphone with the Motif.

1. First, as mentioned above, the Motif doesn’t supply phantom power, so you must have a microphone that doesn’t require phantom power. (This rules out condensor and ribbon microphones.) If you microphone requires phantom power then you will need to provide that via an external box.

2. The AD input of the Motif is disabled in voice mode - this implies that your microphone can only be used in performance, song or pattern modes (or master mode, where the selected master points to a performance, song or pattern.)

3. When using a microphone with the Motif, you need to setup the Motif for microphone input. This is done by setting the Mic/Line parameter in the [UTILITY]-->[F2] I/O-->[SF1] Input dialog to mic.

4. You can adjust the input gain of the AD input using the gain knob that is adjacent to the AD inputs on the rear of the Motif.

5. Additional parameters related to the AD input (and therefore your microphone) can be set in the following dialogs):

- Performance Mode: [PERFORM]-->[F2] AD
- Song Mode: [SONG]-->[MIXING]-->[F2] AD
- Pattern Mode: [PATTERN]-->[MIXING]-->[F2] AD

The parameters settable in these dialogs include the relative volume, stereo pan position, send levels to the system effects, etc. For more information, see page 163 of the Motif Classic Owner’s Manual.
