I just thought that I would post this to help others. I connect the midi out on my dx7 keyboard through a midi cable to the midi in on my mm6. All sounds are generated by the mm6. I can have whatever sound I want playing through each keyboard (ie organ on the mm6 and piano on the other keyboard at the same time). From memory, the method is as follows: On the mm6 just select the sound that you want the second keyboard to play and then press , user button, record button, select track one, play a note or two. When you press stop the sound is assigned to user song 1 and will be heard when the second keyboard is played. There are five user songs which means that 5 sounds can be instantly recalled on the second keyboard without having to go through the recording process. At any time a new sound can be selected for the mm6. This is how I use the mm6 as a sound module without a computer. hope this helps. (don’t tell Yamaha ;-) ) |

I haven’t tried it yet, Rocky, but it sounds like an excellent tip to overcome the annoyance that Yamaha purposely? crippled the MIDI IN on the MM6/MM8 to prevent it from being used as an additional Sound Module controlled from a Master Keyboard! Well done! Paul..MO6 + MM6… |
