Hi everyone,
I am now running Cubase AI4 with my Audiogram 6 under XP.  I have installed the USB midi driver to work with my MO8.  I have a couple of questions/dilemmas I am looking for help with.  I would love to synchronize my MO8 sequencer to AI with AI being the master so I can control playback of songs/patterns on the MO to record into AI.  I used quick setup #2 on the MO, but I could never get AI to drive the MO sequencer.  I am obviously missing something in the manuals - do I need to somehow set up my MO8 as a midi device?  I tried doing some of the AI manual steps for this setup to no avail.  As an old dawg I could use some specific step by step guides if anyone is willing and able.

I am also not quite getting it on getting my MO to play into instrument and midi tracks with AI virtual instruments. Is this again a midi device setup type of issue?  I do have the MO set up to transmit by USB - do I need to really get the midi channel and midi port definitions clearly defined on each end?

I am starting to get embarrassed - I am an engineer by day and this whole midi thing seems to be a difficult learning curve for me. Any help will truly be greatly appreciated.

One thing I know for sure is that in order to use Cubase as the master you need to go to Transport>Project Synchronization Setup…

If you want to use the method most flexible for most recording situations choose a MIDI Clock Destination (your MO USB MIDI ports) and possibly check the “Always Send Start Message” box. This will allow you to always record synced to project tempo, but won’t restrict you to a specific timeline position.

Remember that once you set the MO to slave to the MIDI clock you won’t get any response when trying to play unless the DAW (Cubase in theis case) is in playback or record mode.

Thanks.  I am on the right track apparently.  My keyboard was in Song Mode, and it said MIDI on the basic song screen.  And, the sequencer was not operating with the keyboard pushbuttons.  So I think I have the keyboard set up OK.

Now in the Synchronization Dialogue box I do not have anything showing up in the MIDI Clock Destination box suggesting it will connect to my keyboard.

I think this part is where I am missing what needs to be done.  I await further advice on this aspect from those in the know (since I sure don’t.

You needed to download both the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver (version 2.2.3) for XP and the Yamaha USB AUDIO Driver (version 1.0.1 for XP)

The USB-MIDI Driver (um223) will allow the MO to be addressed in your software:

Thanks once again Bad Mister.  The driver for the Audiogram fixed a lot of nagging issues.  I now have Cubase AI driving my MO and I also got the MO to play instruments within Cubase so now I am ready to do some serious recording.

Somehow I missed the instructions to put in that driver - I looked through the audigram manual and still couldn’t find it, but that is the great thing about this forum.  This is where us amateurs can get professional help from some great teachers.
