Would I have to create a library of SysEx messages to send to the ES from Sonar to put the ES into Performance mode?

Similarly, for the keyboard version of the ES it would be nice to be able to put the ES into Master mode and select those patches.  I use Masters a lot when gigging live with my ES8, and it would be nice to be able to capture everthing in Sonar when recording a “live” performance.

Sorry, it is not exactly clear what you want to accomplish… you can select PERFORMANCES with Bank Select and Program Change data, if the Motif Rack ES is in PERFORMANCE mode, if you want to change modes, you have two options - send it the appropriate SYSTEM EXCLUSIVE message to Change Modes, or press the front panel buttons.

The MODE CHANGE command is:
F0 43 10 7F 00 0A 00 01 xx F7

where xx is the data byte. When
xx = 00 Voice mode
xx = 01 Performance mode
xx = 03 Multi mode

So to change to PERFORMANCE mode you must send:
F0 43 10 7F 00 0A 00 01 01 F7

For the Motif ES keyboard you can change to MASTER mode with the following:
F0 43 10 7F 00 0A 00 01 04 F7

Then to select a MASTER program 001-128:
F0 43 10 7F 00 0A 00 00 xx F7

where xx = 00 through 7F
