I use the N12, with my MOTIFXS8 and Cubase 5.0 as well. However, you provide so little info that it is impossible to determine whats wrong.

You wrote it did work before, so what did you change?

BTW, what equipment are you using, what software, which drivers did you install etc. etc.

I have Cubase AI 4 with the latest upgrade (4.5.2), Motif XS6 with MLan with the latest OS (V1.12) and N12 running through Yamaha FW driver. I also updated firmware on N12 to (V1.03) and IEE1394 Firmware to (V1.07). Main problem I have now is that DAW remote control on N12 does not work with Cubase (Cubase Ready Light on N12 does not come up when I start my projects).
I did use a PatchBay before without any problems.
Thanks, AZ

I Suppose you are using a PC, with what XP or Vista 32-bit or 64-bit.

Normally speaking. This white ready light should automatically ligth up after Cubase is ready. Which order do you start your equipment? Make sure that the N12 and your XS is powered up first before you start Cubase.

I assume you connected Firewire cables from the N12 to the XS and from the XS to the PC, or XS to the N12 and from the N12 to the PC.

Otherwise I do not see a problem in your setup.

Does this happen with ALL projects, including a new one?? Have you tried, for example, booting up everything fresh then creating a brand new project (and do not open an old project first)? Let us know.........frank

I run everything on IMac not on PC. FW cables connected from the Imac to N12 and N12 to XS. No changes even I open a brand new project before an old one, still no light comes up on N12 and no DAW remote control occurs.  When I go to System Preferences on imac and then to FW driver and press identify button the Cubase ready indicator lights up for a few seconds.
BTW, FrankE, I guess Daw remote control should be available even before I open any projects when I just start Cubase? Is that right?

Zoueva,

Maybe a stupid question. Did you set the XS to FW driver? Using Utility and I think the I/O knob on the XS

Lost track of your other thread… Go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES and find the Yamaha-Steinberg FW icon and open the CONTROL PANEL… Does the Control Panel show the N12 as being connected?

Let us know.

1.FW driver is set on XS utility panel.
2. N12 shows up on Control panel and when identify button is pressed Cubase ready indicator lights up on N12.

I have downloaded Tools for N12. Can you teach me how to use Audio Midi setup window to connect N12, XS with Mlan on it? I am lost in all these ports Properties/Ports options there. Would appreciate your expert opinion on connections, though that it can be done automatically but apparently it’s not the case. I think I fixed the problem with remote control with help from Stienberg support email.
Thanks.
PS. I have found this link, but I don’t have Logic Pro.
http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/442432/

Is there any similar tutorials or information for Cubase setup instead of Logic Pro including N12 mixers?
Please advice.

Yikes, you don’t have to do any of that stuff with Cubase.

If you have the Yamaha Steinberg Firewire driver installed on your iMAC, you can go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES there you will see the Yamaha Steinberg Firewire driver icon. Click it it should report that you have the N12 and the Motif XS connected. Let us know what you see.

Then if you go on your HD, find APPLICATIONS > UTILITIES > “Audio/MIDI Setup”

On the Audio side, select Yamaha Steinberg Firewire Driver (shown in screen shot below)

That seems to be clear so far, what do I do with other screen where I should connect MIDI devices and set them up, how do I run wires from one device to another? Can you coment on that?
PS. I want to integrate N12 along with XS and not just XS itself.
Thanks, AZ

Firewire: is run just one device to the next (in what we call a ‘daisy-chain’). For example, Computer > N12 > XS

Audio: Connect the N12 to your monitor speakers (you can connect up to 3 pair of monitors). Connect the Motif XS to the N12 (use one of the stereo channels 9/10 or 11/12)

MIDI: No MIDI Setup connections are necessary as that is all taken card of via firewire.
