I understand I have to buy an SCSI device and use Yamaha TWE software to download my samples I have saved on hard disk, to my Motif. I’ve read the manual thoroughly, and am going out now to get the equipment. I understand if certain things aren’t set up just right, I can lose all files on my disk! Are these just the sample files they’re speaking of or ALL files on my C drive? In that case, shouldn’t I copy my sample files to CD-ROM, then extract them from there to my Motif through the SCSI device? I’m assuming that samples are opened in TWE,then routed through TWE to the SCSI device to my Motif?  Also, is it true the Motif 6 can only use USB 1 to transmit and receive data? It is incredibly slow!
Thanks a lot for your help.

The Motif classic can load samples from any SCSI mass storage device or a SmartMedia Card. (There’s also a backdoor way to do this directly from TWE via the SCSI connection between a computer and the Motif Classic, but its been a long time since I’ve used this and I don’t recall the details of how to do this.)

You cannot transfer samples to the Motif via the USB or MIDI interfaces.

I’ve not heard of anyone losing sample data when loading them into the Motif, although if you accidnetally “saved” a file to the same name as an existing file on an attached mass storage device you could overwrite them.

I agree that the USB connection to the Motif is incredibly slow. That’s why I always copied any data that I was moving between my computer and the Motif to a SmartMedia card or a SCSI device.
