Is it possible to use the MM8 as a midi controller to drive a software sequencer using the USB (To Host) connection?

I am not sure what you mean.

No, you cannot use it as a transport control ( play, stop, rewind, ff, etc) for a program like Sonar.

Yes, you can use it to control softsynths through USB, it works exactly the same as midi.
