I am at the Beginning of it all… I have a Motif XS Rack, a Yamaha KX49 Controller.... I am not good with DAW’s, I suck at them as a whole. I have had Pro Tools for over a year and have yet to get anywhere with it…

I have followed the instructions on how to set everything up, but I am getting nowhere with it at all. I am so frustrated with the manuals and the lack of basic instruction. So far I have been Hardware based and thought I could use the Motif Rack the same way I have used other synths with my setup. So far that has not been he case.

I have read, and reread everything at least twice, and I am completely lost. I am starting to think I am illiterate and I just did not know it.

All I want to actually do is (Without using Cubase or anything to do with my computer) connect the Motif and the KX to my MPC… And record MIDI commands so that when I record into my MPC I can replay what I just recorded via MIDI.... I have yet to figure out how to record a certian voice on one MIDI channel, then change it in th Motif and record a different voice on another channel (i.e. Track 1 Midi 1a:Quartet Track 2 MIDI 2a: Small Section)… Can this actually be done with this XS Rack.... I thought I had a good grasp of MIDI until trying to use this setup.... And trying to setup Cubase and all the other editors and stuff I want to hit someone.....

Motif XS Rack
Yamaha KX49
MPC 1000
Mac Mini 1.83
Cubase AI4 with all downloads as listed on this site and on Yamahas site

I tried having the USB from the KX connected and nothing… The same with the Motif Rack connected via USB.... I can get the Motif to play fine just using a MIDI cable.... But outside of that I am lost.

Please help… Please…

I found the info I needed. Just a matter of reading and putting together the info from others as well.

Thanks for the help.
