You should be more clear, what did you mean when you say changing between song parts? Did you want to change track (voice) you are playing? If yes, you could do it but you should play several voices on the same track and write Program Change command at the instants when you want to “change” instrument. But, if there is not enough pause between instruments it will sound abruptly. Some another possibility (but more expencive) is to buy and use MF10 MIDI controller, that has a lot of features, especially usefull for live playing. I didn’t use it, but for sure there are guys who could share their experience. Alex |

Yes nbadesign, I want to change the tracks when I’m playing a song (song>mixing). But I didn’t understand exactly the steps you gave. Can you write me with further details the method I must follow?

It looks like you can do this if you want it bad enough. If you look at the bottom, right corner of page 67 of the Data List document, it looks like you can pull up the different Parts of a Mix, as that function is available as a system exclusive function. You’ll either need a method to change a command in the midi output stream from some pre-programmed foot switch Control Change command coming out of the ES over to the desired sysex message (like using a Midi Solutions Event Processor) and then route it back to the synth, or get a programmable midi foot controller solution (like the Yamaha MFC10) as mentioned above. I have both and use them depending on the need and the easiest way to implement. The sysex commands in the book can fool you though in what it appears they are supposed to do (or what you hope they do!) aren’t necessarily what they end up doing. I’m not 100% sure it’s possible to do what you’re saying; you’d have to try it out. Simply using Midi-Ox would probably tell the tale as to if it’s possible for a midi command to make it happen programatically before you invest in hardware. If you’re using a PC along with the synth, you might be able to just use Midi-Ox in some creative manner. Is there some reason you’re operating in Song > Mixing mode live? Are you doing sequencing to the other voices while playing too? Otherwise it’s an easy thing to call up different voices with the pedal in Voice mode. |

Scottrod gave answers on your question. Just to add: if you want to change voices in Voice mode using pedal, you should organize them in order you want, since with pedal connected to Assignable switch input you will only increment/decrement program (voice) number. Alex |

Scottrod I found it very difficult to understand the midi data tables in the book of Data List. I also did not understand the way that I can change the midi data in the instrument to make what I want. It seems very complex to me… The reason that I use the Song>Mixing mode is because in this mode the sound of a voice does not stop while you change it to the next track. When you are in the Voice Mode and you want to change a voice to the next, the sound of the first will stop unless you play the next! It’s a common fact in the digital synthesizers. I didn’t find other way to face it. |

While you can do a lot of things by sending System Exclusive commands to your Motif ES, selecting the MIDI channel (and therefore mixing part) the keybed of the Motif ES is connected to is not one of these things. Selection of the active part can only be done by pressing the part number keys on the ES. Sorry, Brad Weber }:-( |
