Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew of an XS guru who would be
interested in helping me get down the learning curve, I
am a new XS user and unfamiliar with programming onboard
sequencers, layering voices, and so on.

I am in the upstate New York area, within driving distance
of NYC.

I would also be interested if anyone knows about XS user
‘workshops’ or home recording tutorial sessions which
incorporate the XS and/or similar products.

Thanks!
-Doug

Do you have the World of Motif XS DVD that’s a good start.  Also if you are close to NYC, Bad Mister who posts often on the forum lives in NYC and we can work on arranging a clinic session in NYC.

How many other people would like to get a chance for a face to face tutorial in NYC ?

The World of Motif XS DVD + Motif XS Masterclass DVD = Win :)

(And no, I haven’t been paid to plug the merchandise!)

But seriously, they are both excellent for getting used to using the XS - that’s not to say a face to face wouldn’t be fantatsic (I live on the other side of the pond so not possible for me) but in any case, I think you’d get far more out of that if you had gone through these tutorial/guides first.

And whilst these dvd’s don’t cover everything, they do give you enough information to help you get to where you want to go when editing or performing/recording.

2 cents, imho etc.

This is a great idea.  I don’t live in NYC anymore, but am going to be travelling down there at the end of April, and depending on cost would be eager to attend a session if one were available.

IMO Yamaha should conduct some sort of class like this every so often just for the heck of it--it’s a great way not just to teach/sell the product, but also a great way to build connections with the userbase.

Being sort of a newbie myself, I would love an opportunity to attend an XS “workshop” or tutorial-based class.  While the XS is such a feature ladened keyboard, it is still somewhat “intimidating” (although exiting) to those who are kind of new to the world of workstation synths. And it would also create an opportunity to meet other owners of the XS who could relate their music making experiences. Hey, who knows… you could meet that collaborator to help you put your song “over the top”!

I heard BM is organizing motif XS summer camp for dummies this year in Utah.
