hi i imported a standard GM File to my xs sequencer. remove all events (CC/Program Change/etc..) from all tracks. for few tracks, i changed the program. i saved it. and i also saved it in usb stick.

but when i load it from usb stick again, some tracks become piano preset program again.

what am i doing wrong?i though in song mode, all i have to do is select the track, then select the program patch, and save.

If you remove all program changes,
so you remove all Voice settings too.
You should have STORE-ed the mix to set new Program changes.

i removed the program changes CC. but after that, i selected a particular track, change the program to Alto Sax. then use the File utility to save as *.mid in usb stick. isn’t that the way?

A midi file does not store the voice settings which you choose for the track (Unless you embed them as controller changes). You need to save your file as a song. Im not sitting infront of my XS but I think you will need to save an ALL SONG file. You can then extract the particualr song from it to load it back to the motif, complete with the correct voice settings.

A MIDI file will store GM voices, not the PRESET or USER voices.

No, this is not the way. A .MID file does not contain any of the work you did selecting Voices and setting up Mix parameters in the Motif XS. To save this work, you would need to save in a Motif XS file format.

.MID is not specific to the Motif XS, make sense? If you selected Motif XS Voices and used Motif XS Effects, etc., it only make sense to save this work in a Motif XS file format.

Until you learn all about the various file formats, it is always safest to save your work in an ALL data file (*.X0A)

Press [FILE]
Set the TYPE = ALL
Press [SF1] SAVE
Give the FILE a NAME and execute.

An ALL data file (.X0A) will save everything as you STORED it in your Motif XS. Hope that helps.
