I still haven’t found a way to store my own individual voices as .vstpreset to have them organized in MediaBay. I also don’t know how to import my libraries as .vstpreset with the same purpose. If that isn’t possible to do now, I would like to know if it will be possible in future versions of the editor. I really thought it was the main purpose of the new VST3 editor, to have all your sounds organzized in MediaBay, since all the other features were already available in one form or another in the old Studio Manager editor. I still find the old Motif ES editor much friendlier to check and import sounds from libraries. Any official word on this matter would be nice, thanks. Cheers, Albert |

Actually, be careful about saving .vstpreset items in your hidden folders unless you are absolutely sure you have the appropriate hidden folder. As far as I know, the XS Factory presets go one place the user Library Voices will go in another… As soon as we get verification from the folks who wrote the Cubase software (Steinberg) we will have some guidelines on how this works. The current “Known Issue” warning with area of the VST3/Cubase 5/MediaBay thing should be enough to keep you patient until some clarification comes from Steinberg. |

Thanks for the reply BM, but I was not asking about WHERE to save individual voices, but HOW. The post of Alexandr probably mislead my question. I already know the paths where things are saved. Currently the VST editor seems to save complete mixes instead of individual voices. I’m asking if it’s possible to save individual voices instead of complete mixes and how. That would allow to port my XS (and ES) libraries and custom voices into MediaBay. In fact, I find the current working mode of the XS VST and MediaBay very dangerous. - Preset voices (the ones that came with the editor) contain just one voice only. - The data you save from the VST editor contains the entire XS mix data with 16 voices. Both kinds of data are presented and treated the same way in MediaBay, and this may have catastrophic consequences. You may want to load a sound into the XS’s channel 2 for example and accidentally replace the mix you are currently working on, if you select one of your own saved “voices”. I’m the only that think this is a problem? For the record, I’m using a Motif XS6, Cubase 5 and Windows XP. Image Attachments

Still asking… - Is it possible to save individual voices from the XS editor as vstpresets to be used in MediaBay (Cubase 4 / 5)? - It is possible to convert sounds from XS sound banks to vstpresets? - If not, will it be possible in the future? |

Yes it’s possible, you have to load a sound - voice or multi while in the editor and then save and tag the instrument/s in mediabay.

Thanks for the reply bobbybland, but it my case it doesn’t work in a very usable way. Each time I save a voice using the save preset option:
The editor saves the current XS operating mode along the voice data. So, if I save a voice in VOICE mode, when I load it again the XS is put in Voice mode. That means that I can not load my saved voices in SONG or PATTERN mode because the XS is put automatically in VOICE mode. In the same fashion, if I save the voice in PATTERN mode, I can’t load it later in VOICE mode, because the XS is put automatically in PATTERN mode. Doesn’t it work like this for you? This doesn’t happen with the preset voices that come with the editor, they load correctly in any mode.It only happens with the presets I save. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? |

Sorry, I found the way to do it correctly. I should have read the manual better. It is explained in the page 16, although I didn’t understand it at first. The right option to save individual presets is the one shown in the attached image. You can even select all voices from a bank and save them. Each one will be saved on an individual file. Tagging is done automatically. Great! :) happiness+=100; Image Attachments
