Congrats Dukester, 4 was a big move on from SE3 so I am sure you will see an enormous difference with 5. Hope you and bobbybland will let us know what you like/don’t like about it - some of us are waiting to hear from you early adopters!

Peter

There is a comprehensive review of Cubase 5 in the latest issue of Sound on Sound.

Me too and its great. I need some help with the device set up for using my Motif Rack ES from an instrument track. It works fine from a midi track but I cannot get any sound when inserting it as an external instrument. Any help appreciated and my set up is posted as an attachment. Well I thought it was :-) hope you can see the image on the link.

Thanks in advance.

Duke - bit late coming in on this - glad to see you stepped up to the full monty - hope you are enjoying the extra bells and whistles it gives you.
But since you had gained proficiency in SE3 the step up to 5 is not nearly so massive as the first step into the world of Cubase.

Cheers

Congratulations Dukester!

I’ve been into Cubase 5 for some time and I’m quite happy with it. Too similar to Cubase 4 to spend 200€, but since you have upgraded from SE3 you got a very good deal.

There are many good sounds included in Halion One ready to use.

C5 with me for weeks.
I love the XS implementation.

I have been using H1 already with C4.5.2 - Indeed, some H1 presets are very useful.

I just ordered Cubase Studio 5. I am upgrading from LE4. Should be a substantial upgrade. Can someone tell me how the Halion One presets compare to something like Kontakt 3’s presets? I read that the Halion One presets are pretty good. Thanks

Any Cubase 5 users running it on Mac Pro 8 core/ OSX Leopard ?  How do you like it so far ? stability ? efficiency ? ...etc.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks

MAN!!!! It’s like night and day so far with the differences between SE3 and C-Base 5. It’s “exposing” some of the flaws in my tracks made in “3”, but, following the tutorials at the “5” site is showing me how to “clean them up”. I’ll be starting a fresh project shortly AND, Wellie and frankE, I “think” I have a better understanding of recording in MIDI. I’ll stick with audio for now,but I do intend to give “MIDI” a shot.

I agree, the “leap” from “3” to “5” was a rational and timely one. I am so glad that there are so many of you out there who already work with “5” and also those that work with “4”. I just KNOW I will need a “few” questions answered as I plod along.

I have to tell you guys about Mike Sutton at Yamaha Tech. He helped me get my 01V96v2 connected via mLan between the ES and the software. He is yet another reason why I am so committed to Yamaha gear. He helped be with the set-up even to controlling the software from the board. WAY TOO COOL to not be a sin!!!!

Thanks for post up, gentlemen and be ready to answer some questions in the near future. You too,"Bad 1"(TBxR) and DaveP,but for now, this is an awesome adventure.

The leap from a pre 4 release version like SX or LE or SE etc. is a big one when going to C5 and it will take awhile to get used to all the bells and whistles in C5. For some of us going from C4 to C5 though, the leap can be somewhat minor, especially if one does not work with loops, or need a ‘drum machine’. :) I also can’t get excited over things like HALion One either. If one does not have many hardware instruments or additional plug-ins, that’s a different scenario though. Someone ask if the HO presets were as good as in Kontakt, and that’s a question with no definitive answer as Kontakt is a sampler, into which thousands of different instruments from numerous companies can be inserted, where as HO is simply a player.
I note as I visit forums and studios that there is always a gap in enthusiasm shown by those who view a DAW as something that supplies everything they need and those who simply use all its important features but mainly rely on soft synths and various plug-ins from other manufacturers to make their productions even stronger. So while one person finds something like HO just what they need, another may not. Steinberg continues to supply more ‘essentials’ with each new release and that’s certainly to their credit though, and especially important for some.
So far, I’ve found the new release to be fairly stable, but as I mentioned in January, it will probably be at least six months before I turn to it completely. All my projects are currently in C4 and will stay there for awhile yet. I’m not suggesting that anyone else should do the same; it up to each person to decide. One feature of C5 that I definitely want to push and explore and see developed further is VST Expression. I use a lot of the EastWest Play software libraries in my projects, and being able to use various articulations to their fullest is definitely a goal.
Anyway, there’s something for everyone in the new version, so whether C5 is a wonderful leap forward for you or just a minor step up, hope you enjoy ‘the journey’. There’s lots to learn and explore...............frank

Re: “Any Cubase 5 users running it on Mac Pro 8 core/ OSX Leopard ?  How do you like it so far ? stability ? efficiency ? ...etc.”
---So far, so good. No problems, complaints or crashes yet. :) Still getting used to our Mac Pro, but both C4 and C5 are performing as expected. Visit the Mac C5 conference at Cubase.net though for more discussions. Some folks are claiming C5 doesn’t perform as well on a Mac Pro as in Windows, while others totally disagree and are quite happy. Some folks have reported minor problems, while others have not. The more things change, the more things stay the same. :) If your Mac and your audio/MIDI hardware are solid, you should be fine..............frank

Hi frankE , and Thanks for the feedback regarding Mac Pro and C5.

C5 seems to have some very cool features, I had a brief phone conversation with someone at Steinberg, interestingly enough....  he assured me that the C5 performs very well on the Intel-Mac Pro, actually he said that it performs pretty much equally well on both Intel Macs and PCs. So, my guess is they are pretty much on par, if there is a difference in performance it is negligible.

It appears that Steinberg has done there homework very well, and delivered a much more efficiently coded Cubase 5 for the Intel-Mac OSX. plus, they coded it in Cocoa, which is what the next Mac OSX Snow Leopard will be utilizing, and hopefully full 64-bit support on the Mac will be coming our way in the not too distant future, which is very good news !

I have been reading some mixed reports on the various C5 forums, some current bugs in C5 (i.e. Automation data seems to be snapping back after doing a crescendo type CC fadeout.  But not sure if this is something specific to a few users based on something in their system, hopefully Steinberg will be updating C5 to iron out some of the initial bug-reports.

I’m going to play it safe, and wait for the next update to be posted, before I proceed with purchasing it.

Cheers.

Re: “C5 seems to have some very cool features”
---It sure does, and as I suggested above there’s something in it for everyone. Peter also mentioned the review in Sound on Sound magazine this month. The author covers many of the important new features, so if anyone is interested in reading info other than what Steinberg has supplied, c/o the article. I’m sure most folks here are now subscribers to SOS anyway....and if you’re not you should be! :) .................frank

FrankE, I have a question for you. I’m sorry if it is kind of off topic or strays a little from Cubase. I was wondering in the East West Play software, can you record the instrument in Cubase and then add articulations later in Cubase? Thanks
