Wow!!!  with the 3.0, & 3.5 OS update to Montage, is it finally worthy as a successor to Motif???

I am one Motif’s biggest fanboys!.  I love my Motif XF8 to me its literally a masterpiece.

Originally, the Montage had no real sequencer, no play FX, or no jobs, and so it was less than the Motif.  Even though they did add the FM-X engine, and more AWM2 samples, it was still less than Motif.  Yamaha originally at least attempted a bait and switch.  But with Montage 3.0 and 3.5 updates WOW!!!!  The Montage has wet my appetite!

They’ve added:

A legitimate Sequencer still not quite as hefty as Motif.  The Montage Sequencer has 8 Sections in comparison to Motif’s 16 Sections.  But it does bring the pattern jobs, and song jobs, as well as the Play FX to Montage.  This was a HUGE step in the right direction and at least put Montage in the field of play. But is still lacked Integrated Sampling, so no cigar quite yet.

But Now the AUTOMORPH feature WOW!!!  an entirely new way to design sounds using the FM-X engine.  This is a big time innovation!

So Montage with a Full Sequencer (more or less) + FM-X Engine + Motion Sequencing + Automorph This imo is finally an instrument that takes the Motif concept to the next level.

Hooray for Montage.  Montage can never replace Motif, but Montage as of the OS 3.5 update can legitimately at least be considered as a true successor to Motif.  That’s if you can get past the ugly user interface :-)

At the very least I’ll likely add MODX to my studio in the near future, and if budget permits I’ll pull the trigger on the Montage.

I’m glad to see Yamaha has done the due diligence to the Motif line.  By bringing Montage to what it should have been all along.

No, Montage will never be a successor to Motif because Montage is not a Workstation, but only a synth. Montage has to have a full blown Multi-sampler to be a Workstation. Even tho Motif sampler was shoddy and cheap, it packed one.
