Anyone with experience (+ or -) hooking up Motif xs with Zoom app for a virtual Zoom band practice?  How to use the amp/mixer/headphones/other etc. Thanks - TH

I’ve not used Zoom nor the XS, but I have used a Motif XF and Skype. Presuming the requirements are similar for Zoom, you’re only going to get a mono signal in, the first input of your audio interface. Route your Zoom audio settings so that your first input from your interface is the “mic”, and your “speakers” for the Zoom call are your audio interface outputs (use the headphones or monitors depending on what you have). If you have a mixer, and need more than one input connected, mix down your sources (mic, keys, etc) into a mono channel, take the output from that to your audio interface’s first input, and do the same as above. Anything you have connected to your mixer will then go into the mono signal into the Zoom call.

If Zoom allows stereo audio, the principles are the same; it’s just two channels instead of one and they aren’t going to be split (a single stereo mixdown).

Hope that helps,

Max

Thanks for the response.  Here’s what I had hooked up for the first Zoom video practice.  Had my XS7 and Hammond XK1 simply hooked up to my amp and the sound from the amp was picked up by the microphone of the iPad and that’s what the other band members heard on their end.  This does not sound like what you are talking about.  What does you hookup look like?

Oh dear, I’m afraid I didn’t know you had replied again. Sorry for the delay!

Okay...my setup was on an iMac or an HP Windows laptop; I didn’t realize we were talking about iOS. That’s totally different, as most of the apps don’t let you choose an audio source. I’ve taken some time and downloaded Zoom on my iPad to see what I can get it to do.

Since you asked what the setup looked like, it was the Motif 1/4” outputs into a Resident Audio T4 audio interface, and that was set as the audio input in Skype; the interface was also set as the output for Skype, and I used headphones to hear the Skype call and monitor my playing. None of this specific equipment would work with iOS so like I said I’m checking it out now.
