Hi there,
I play the piano on an FP-90 and I have some presets. When I change the preset on the FP90, the FP90 changes the Motif’s voice by sending a Program Change.

In each FP90 preset I set Program Change to send it to the Motif Rack. In this way, the Motif changes the way I want the bank and the corresponding voice every time I change a preset on the FP-90.

However now I have a problem, I want the Motif to play 2 sounds simultaneously, piano + strings.

I have tried to do it in MULTI mode, but in multi mode, I can’t switch multi voice from FP-90. When changing a preset on the FP90, what changes are the individual tracks of one of the 16 voices in multi mode, but it does not change the entire program of multi mode. Can this be done? I have seen the listing of MSB and LSB of the voices of the VOICE mode, but not the listing of the MULTI mode, I don’t know what program to send through the FP-90 to change the whole program of the multi mode. In other words, for example go from multi 1 to multi 2 by sending an order from the FP90 as I do in voice mode.

I have also tried to do it in the VOICE mode using elements, on piano 1, I have gone to edit the elements and changed the 4th element and I have removed the piano and assigned a string, but it sounds a bit ugly, because it seems that the strings that I like them are a mixture of several elements and it does not sound the same.

I have talked too much Can anyone help me? Thank you!!!

That’s correct, when only Program Change is sent to a Motif Rack model in Multi mode, just the Voice within the Multi will change.

To change the entire Multi number, Bank Select MSB/LSB are sent first, then Program Change. The MSB and LSB for Multi mode are 63 and 65 respectively. That information is on page 44 of the Data List for the Motif Rack. A PDF copy is available here:

WOOOW GREAT!!!
a few months ago I printed out the pages of the MSB and LSB on pages 1 to 10 on paper.

Yesterday when I consulted these papers I saw that there was no table referring to MULTI mode and I thought that there was no way to change the multis integers, but only each one of the 16 individual tracks of the multi.

I hadn’t seen that box on page 44.

GREAT, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! YOU’RE A MACHINE!!

I don’t know whether to do it on this thread or should I open a new thread.

Is there a way to indicate which program change we want the Motif to send when we select for example multi 1?

The problem is that I have MIDI connected from the FP-90 to the Motif and from the Motif to the MKS-20. In each FP-90 preset I can indicate that MSB-LSB-PC I want to send to the Motif. So when I put a preset on the FP90, the Motif changes to the Multi that I want (for example multi 7) but the MKS-20 receives the same PC and I cannot say that in the MKS-20 I want for example the program 2 instead of 7.

If in the Multi 7 it could say when activated that PC 2 be transmitted to the MKS-20 it would be great, but no matter how much I have searched for months, on several occasions, I don’t see where.

Is it possible?

I’ve already written another endless roll hahaha.

Thank you!!!!

The Rack echoes the incoming PC message to the MIDI-Out, and there’s no way to reprogram that.

There are two possible ways to work around your situation…
1) Move the Multis in the Rack so that they have the same Program number as the MKS-20 sound you want to layer with them.
2) Get a MIDI Event Processor and program it so that the PC messages from the Rack are remapped to the ones you want from the MKS-20. These are two possible devices for that purpose:

(I have no connection to the company.)

Great! I love that machine, I will surely try it soon.

For now, I have tried another system.

I really only use Motif piano 1 with MKS p1 or piano + string or piano + organ and little else. all this varying with different amounts of chorus in the MKS.

So what I have done has been to create a multi with several tracks and assign the midi channels according to one instrument or another.

The MKS receiving MIDI on OMNI.

The Motif Program Change OFF.

The Motif, track 1 receives on channel 1. Track 2 (p1) and 3 (strings) receiving on channel 2 both.

In this way, in a preset of the FP-90 I put transmit on channel 1 with PC 1 and thus the MKS is put on piano one and the Motif only operates piano 1.

Another preset of the FP-90 for example with the PC1 transmitting through the midi channel 2. Then the MKS sets the piano 1 and the Motif activates the p1 and strings.

I can have up to 16 instrument combinations in a multi program and choose the ones I want to play by transmitting from the FP-90 through one midi channel or another and independently control the MKS by sending control changes.

It’s a slop, I know but for now it’s worth it.

The problem I have found is that if in the middle of a song I change from one preset to another, even if I keep pressing the damper pedal, the change is very sudden and abrupt and for a moment everything is silent.

Later I will buy that MIDI Event Processor looks very good to solve many problems.

Thanks 5pinDIN !!!
