Looking to see what others are using as far as a case to transport their Motif XF7.  Looking at the price of flight cases is expensive since I will not be traveling other than to local bar gigs with my XF7. Currently have a Gator Soft side case to get back and forth to practice but once I start gigging with it, may want to get something a little better. Not opposed to spending money on a flight case but looking for a cheaper alternative that works.

Any Thought or recommendations appreciated

Hi daddyrnr,

To answer your question, I use a custom made hard case I had made here in the UK for transport to practices and gigs, and an Ultimate Support soft case for moving my XF7 around in the house, because it is too heavy once inside its hard case, for me, on my own, and I run the risk of damaging walls and woodwork, and the XF itself like that.

It’s difficult to recommend what kind of case you should get, but I went for a custom hard case after looking around, and noticing that the dimensions of other ‘universal’ type cases wouldn’t fit the car.

These are the kind of things you need to think about:

- Dimensions
- Extra weight, the XF itself is already quite heavy without a hard case.
- How protective the case seems to be (sounds obvious, but cases vary)
- Do you need wheels on the case?
- Universal 76 key cases versus Custom made.
- Price

The big problem with universal 76 key hard cases are that they don’t snugly fit all 76 key keyboards and might not fit yours nicely unless you get lucky.  They usually employ some kind of device to make them fit by means of straps or extra padding.  This was not satisfactory to me either.

So if you do buy one, you’re better off getting one made for a Motif XF7.
