I am hoping somebody had this problem and can help.
After being stored for two months my XS Yes/No buttons have went haywire:

Symptoms:
1.On start-up if i change a voice or performance either by scrolling or selecting buttons it jumps right back to User A 1 voice,if i press the Yes button several times the problem stops but sometimes happens again lets say once an hour.

2.Any action that needs a Yes/No confirmation like factory reset does not work as the buttons dont respond.

ActionsTaken:
1.Opened up synth and reviewed all boards and connections especially around the Yes/No buttons but no problem seen

2.Used a hair dryer to dry out inside connection as here in the Philippines humidity is high. No improvement.

3.Restored factory settings with power on reset not utility reset process, no difference

Currently I get by but its fragile and every so often I need the Yes/No button for saving as you will be aware.

Being on an island in the Philippines I dont have easy access to technical support so reaching out here to see if anybody has a possible solution.

Your location not only is likely to create moisture problems, but also exposure to “salt air”, which can cause corrosion. Removing moisture with a hair dryer doesn’t resolve corrosion problems if they exist. Corrosion can cause connections to not function, as well as create unwanted conductive paths.

Since OS version 1.10 a USB ASCII keyboard can be attached to the USB “TO DEVICE” port. One of the features is that “Y” or “N” on the ASCII keyboard can be pressed in place of the YES/NO buttons on the XS. INC/DEC can be accomplished with the “+” and “-” keys.

That may or may not be sufficient to work around your problem.

Hi thanks for the reply to my concern and yes you are correct being right by the seashore which we are causes a lot of corrosive issues in electrical outlets as an example.
Also your suggestion of the external keyboard is excellent and one I had never though of. I will try that tomorrow

For those not familiar with it, I’ve attached information about using a USB ASCII keyboard with the XS (also works with an XF). Note that the “Y” and “N” key usage isn’t documented.

There was one issue that I needed to overcome which was that because the USB port was now occupied with the keyboard I could not attach a USB stick to load sounds. I get around that by luck as I had a keyboard which has a usb port on the side. All is well

I’m glad that provided a workaround for the problem.

As to the need for multiple USB ports, a USB hub could have been used for expansion if you didn’t have an ASCII keyboard with the capability built in. I’m using a 3-port hub, and that allows the ASCII keyboard and two flash drives to be connected simultaneously.
