Hi.

I’m using Cubase 10, a Motif XS, and the YS FW ASIO driver (all in Windows 10) and all of these are working together very well for me when my only interest is is recording and PB of the Motif.

However, the rest of my studio is wired for and operating thru other mixers connected to a different audio interface (MOTU 2408).

Assuming I start a project on the Motif XS, then record it into Cubase, the rest of what I want to do (e.g. guitars, vocals, other hw synths, etc.) is not convenient to do using the Motif XS as my computer audio I/O interface.  Instead I want to use the MOTU 2408 (as I’ve done for years prior to the Motif/FW setup).

So, my question is, what should my workflow be to accomplish this?

The Cubase project at this point is completely and only configured to deal with the Motif XS (via FW).

What I want is for everything I’ve recorded into Cubase from the Motif to be available and mixable in Cubase while I add new audio tracks to the project (all needing to come from MOTU 2408 inputs), while monitoring via speakers being driven from the MOTU 2408 outputs.

Should I start a new Cubase project from scratch using the MOTU PC ASIO driver and then Import tracks from the original project?

Is there a way to stay in the original project, pitch the YS FW ASIO driver and “attach” the MOTU PC ASIO driver instead?

Is there some way to somehow have the YS FW ASIO driver and the YS FW ASIO driver both available simultaneously with all their ins and outs?  (This would be ideal.)

I hope that folks who have had similar goals and walked this path already can help me avoid dead ends and achieve an efficient workflow here.

You can make the best of both worlds.

In your situation, I’d work exclusively with the MOTU interface and create Cubase Projects that use it from the beginning.

Connect your Motif’s S/PDIF out to the MOTU’s S/PDIF in.  That way, you can still record your Motif digitally through your MOTU into Cubase, and all you lose the ability to record simultaneous channels of digital audio from your Motif that you had with FW. 

I’d only use the Motif’s firewire capabilities if I absolutely needed to or if the MOTU broke down.

There’s nothing wrong with starting a project using either interface and exporting files into new projects either.

You may also be able to change drivers on the fly.  I’m not a Cubase user, so I can’t test this, but I know I can do it in other DAWs.
