Is there a good tutorial on how to make good use of the bass arpeggios or any other ones on the motif XF 678? It looks like a great waste of arpeggiation out here. Even the entry level PSR and 300$ Casio are better responsive it seems. I don’t get it. How do you make good use of the arpeggios on the Xf?
I play chords and I know my chords. I just can’t seem to get a good groove and things are just heavy and dragging. Is there a secret, I hope there is one for such a world renowned workstation. I’m determined to find out. There is no way that’s all it can do. Not smooth transition at all from progression to progression. And why should it not work? We’ve come too for to be still trying to figure this out. |

It’s not clear to me exactly what difficulty you’re experiencing with Arp usage, although it seems to be about the “feel”. I’m going to refer you to a few sources of information… http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/arpeggios_explored_part_i You can significantly modify the feel of Arps by applying ARP FX (Arpeggio Effects). See Using the knobs to control Arpeggios on page 25 of the XF Reference Manual, and these articles: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/recording_a_performance_as_audio_to_the_xf_sequencer
http://www.motifator.com/storage/support/PLAYING_PERFORMANCES.pdf
If the transition time between selected Arps is an issue, see (3) Change Timing on page 58 of the Reference Manual. Also see (17) Voice with ARP on page 147. I hope you’ll find some of the above helpful. |

In the past I had to “hunt†for arpeggios that fit my projects; I found many impressive treasures. I’ve also had success using the “convert to arpeggio†job function, tho this took a bit more practice. |

I bet it does take more practice. I’m reading on the materials 5pinDIN had provided. They’re very resourceful and I guess I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m hopeful and reinvigorated. This is just the push I needed to get to it. Thanks all. I’ll post more questions as I progress if that can help others. Bass ARPs is my main focus for now; although I’m learning a great deal from reading the entire thing. |

Here is an additional use I have for the Arpeggiator for “Live” performances Our band has a sax player that makes most of the gigs. Occasionally, he can’t make the gig. I create his lines “from scratch” as arpeggios so that I can play his part and my part when he can’t make it. Sequences wouldn’t work in my case because how I use song mode and pattern mode during live performances. My own user created arpeggios save the day. I can trigger them when I need, easily change them in the course of a performance and can control the tempo in case the drummer decides to change the speed of the song LOL. So any time you a “Predictable” or “composed” but dynamically controllable part the Arpeggiator can be your friend. |
