Hi fellow musicians!

I am trying to use my iPad DAW (Auria Pro) to compose and mix a song. For some of tracks I want to use the MOTIF voices and for some I want to use voices generated using soft synths on iPad. Is it possible to record multiple tracks from the MOTIF directly into Auria via USB MIDI? For these I still want to use the MOTIF TONE GENERATOR. I believe it wasn’t possible before but wonder if the latest OS update has changed anything?

Looking forward to your replies.

Samik.

I know nothing about Auria Pro, and I don’t own an iPad.
Here are a few threads which may or may not be helpful:

Thanks 5PinDin - the links weren’t too helpful because they were mostly about connecting the iPad wirelessly with the MOTIF for a different purpose, whereas I am trying to connect my iPad to the MOTIF via USB MIDI and transfer multiple tracks to my DAW on the iPad. I did find someone who asked a similar question but haven’t found the answer yet. Appreciate your help though!

You won’t be able to record audio via USB. You could transmit midi via USB with an appropriate interface and if it has the ability, you could send the audio as well. (Via the outputs of the XF).

You can create a .mid file in Song Mode and off-load it to a thumb drive or computer and export it to the iPad into the Files App then open it in Auria.

I find the Wi-Fi route to be less than stellar with an iPad as the more you ask of the Pad, the less it delivers. I’d grab an interface, they’re a great go-with for an iPad.

Thanks for your reply Stone. However, I am actually trying to connect the ipad directly to the MOTIF and have export multiple MIDI tracks from MOTIF Pattern/Song Mode into an iOS DAW. What I am understanding is that unfortunately that is not possible...bummer!

You’re welcome Sammy. I think at the very least you’d need a class compliant MIDi Interface. I recall only one case of Midi Data transfer via the USB-B port, and that was from an iPad to the XF passing program changes. I’ve not gone the Wi-Fi route as it’s the first thing I disable when I use the iPad. I am curious about Bluetooth Midi. I’ve got an MD-BT01 that I’ve stressed the crap out of and had no issues whatsoever. I have a variety of interfaces here and if you’d like I can test them out and see if there’s a reasonable solution.
