I’ve noticed that some of the faders on my motif travel quite smoothly and easily (master volume and first 4....these get the most use).  The other faders move, but almost as though they’re scraping or sticking...there’s more resistance/friction as they move.  I’ve pulled away the knobs to be sure they’re not pressed on too tight - made no difference.

Would I be ok to hit them with some contact cleaner or am I better to just let them be?

Checking in before I do something dumb.

Thanks!

Slide controls are lubricated by the manufacturer. In use the lubricant tends to gets fairly evenly distributed. Also, any tendency for metal parts to develop surface corrosion is minimized when frequently operated. Those two factors can cause sliders that aren’t used much to become a bit rough feeling.

The first thing I’d suggest is moving the balky sliders through their full range numerous times. That will sometimes free them up to a degree.

If that doesn’t help, I’d be careful about using “contact cleaner”. In my experience many of them will wash the factory lubricant out or at least move it from the surfaces where it belongs, often making things worse. There are “fader lube” products, but I won’t make any recommendations, since even with those there’s no guarantee of the outcome.

really helpful perspective.
Since I don’t use the ones often that are the offenders, I’ll leave it alone.

Thank you!
