I expect the reply would be that for Song Record mode, Arps can be assigned to Scenes. (See (9) SCN1 (Scene 1) - [SF6] SCN6 (Scene 6) on page 77 of the MOXF Reference Manual.) In my first post in this thread I referred to this…

Anyway, if what’s being surmised is true then that “Painting with Arpeggios” article needs to be withdrawn and rewritten or something. I’ve owned many Motif based instruments over the years, S90, ES, MOX, MOXf. I’m a big fan of everybody on the Motifator site and all the Gurus, especially Bad Mister, who have been incredibly helpful and patient over the years so I don’t want to get all crabby-pants about this. I don’t own any of the fancier XS/XF models, but my understanding is that the feature exists and can be used in Pattern AND Song mode. So it’s not presumptuous to think it might be on the MOX/MOXf, especially when there’s an article floating around that says as much. As for using SCN’s instead, it strikes me as a convoluted “work around” at best. But I’ll try it and maybe I will learn to love it. |

Unfortunately, that support article leaves some things ambiguous.

I think contributors here, by and large, do their best to avoid misleading other users. However, sometimes things aren’t as clearly stated as they might be, a consequence of being human. Â :-)
Â
I can indeed assure you that is the case.

The related article for the MOXF, which I previously linked to…

If assigning Arps to Scenes doesn’t satisfy your needs, you’ve still got Direct Performance Record and Pattern mode where the Arps can more readily be selected. Hopefully one of the methods will fit your workflow. |

Problem is that once you have performed the Direct Recording Mode, it automatically saves to a song and if you want to Replace it then we have the same issue. I checked that I have the OS 1.12.0. I can not see whether the provided link to the newest installation takes me to the same version, for which reason I hesitate with installing that one. ANy news about this? I have met the same problem when wanting to improvise and record to a song using various Arps. But having had MOXF8 for 6 months, knowing what beast it is, thought I might still learn. I must say I still have a little voice telling me to get the MODX8 but I called one from Yamaha I know and he said there is even more to learn with the MODX8. ANyway the reason to keep it if I don’t get overthrown by the strange problems, includes the remote DAW controle, many buttons to controle it real time with ease and the Sequenser which is good when having ideas. |

Without investigating whether this addresses your concern or not… The destination Sequencer Mode for Performance Record can be either a Song or Pattern. See page 72 of the MOXF Reference Manual. |

I know but does this mean that I should choose Pattern mode instead of Song Mode? In Pattern mode I can alter between the various ARPs which I created by simply choosing the same Type then going one number ahead. However as I wrote in another thread, I got strange missounds: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/480716/
I still haven’t got the experience to know how to combine patterns with a song.

I’ll address that after completing this post.

I’m not certain what you mean, but I’ll try. Pattern Sections can be Chained and then converted to a Song. See pages 49-51 of the MOXF Reference Manual and pages 103-104 of the MOXF Reference Manual.

I also hope you have the patience - I think you’ll find the effort rewarded. I’m sorry that life has apparently been unkind to you. However, please understand that there are other members of Motifator who have health (etc.) issues, and still manage to participate in the forum. |

Thanks a lot. The missounds sound like another instrument with arpeggio. I find it very strange and unpredictable that despite of erasing the track they show up at random places, each time I record AND replace, or erase the song completely. DOes not make any sense. Seems rather like a glitch in an else-how well thought out system. I will read those things and hopefully become more relaxed and be able to USE this wonderful instrument as my own emotion-extending tool. |
