Hi Cmayhle,

Good to hear you had success with the memory foam “Stopper” Strip.

Since you repaired the P200 piano with this Memory Foam Strip, do you believe it will fit the MOXF-8? 

Where did you get the part?

What is the Part Number?

I ask these questions because I have called Yamaha and nobody there has the faintest idea of what I’m talking about.

I have gotten a schematic of the MOXF-8 and can see where the strips are and I know that the width or height should be specific to fit.

Please provide me your source so I can start the work as I practice my MOXF-8 regularly and the keys are starting to stick.  I think the bottom of the keys are starting to cut into the felt.

I think it is safe to assume that the P200 strip will not fit the MOXF.

I looked at the Service Manual 5pinDIN linked to, and although a couple of the exploded diagrams had the strip visible, there was no reference or part number that I could see.  Kind of disappointing for a Service Manual!

I’m not sure who you talked to at Yamaha, but unless it was their PARTS site, I would expect they would not know what you are looking for.

I got my part number references from the P200 and Motif XF Service Manuals, and purchased through Yamaha 24x7.com You need to register to use this PARTS site.

If you can identify the Part and its number, you should be able to order it easily from Yamaha 24x7.  Since the Service Manual doesn’t seem to identify the part, I’m just not sure where to point you to get that info, other than the site above.

I’m not certain what you’re looking for, but…

Pages 115 and 116 of the PDF are respectively the exploded diagram and parts list for the GHL keyboard assembly. On those, callout numbers 170, 180, and 190 are stopper strips.

Thanks very much, somehow I entirely missed that diagram!

To marcs, please follow the references given by 5pinDIN.  I cannot tell exactly which of those strips is the one that provides the stop when the key falls back into ready position, you will most likely need to explore and identify, per the disassembly instructions within the Manual.

Once you have identified the correct strip and its part number, you should be able to see if it is visibly compressed/hardened at the fall-back contact points.  If you find it is, you should be able to order it on the Yamaha Parts site previously posted.

My issue with both of my MOXF8 keyboards is not with the release (where the metal piece returns to the “Stopper").  It makes noise as it is pressed, in the “attack phase” if you will.  Just lightly touching the keys makes a lot of noise.  Both keyboards have become extremely noisy the more I play them (hours per day).  I’ve replaced the keys with replacement keys (there is a black key replacement part, and 2 different white keys replacement parts), and lubricated everywhere I can find, all to no avail.  I cannot determine where in the world all the noise is coming from!  I cannot be the only person experiencing this!  And I am experiencing it on 2 identical units (one I use for the West Coast, one for the East Coast).

I love the MOXF8, it’s the perfect keyboard to satisfy my requirements… but wow, do the keys physically make a lot of noise as they are played.  I really wish someone could please tell me what the culprit is so I could quiet them down, please!
