Hello,

I’m looking at a few keyboards I’m interested in purchasing. The MoxF8 really caught my eye for those classic Motif sounds very beautiful sounding synth. What really has me interested though is the idea of loading in custom sound libraries. I’m aware that MOXF uses flash and you can load them via a flash drive. With the GB expansions once you load the sounds to the Keyboard are they there permanently as new sound banks Or do you have to load them up every time you want to use them? Does the Memory store the samples?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum.

There will be no new “sound banks”.  There are existing VOICE USER BANKS in the machine, where the actual custom VOICES you create will be STORED.

There is an optional Flash Board, which can be purchased and installed in the machine, that will in fact STORE new sample data for VOICES that use that data.

Once your audio samples are LOADED to the optional Flash Board, they will remain there, intact until you choose to remove them.

Only the sample data is STORED on the Flash Board.

The VOICE itself is STORED within the machine in USER BANKS, and remains until you choose to overwrite it with a different VOICE.

There are also many 3rd party libraries which use only the native samples within the machine, and no optional Flash Board is required to LOAD and play such VOICES.

Forgive me for adding to cmayhle’s more detailed explanation but the short answer to your question is ‘yes.’ Motif instruments (including the MOXF) have their own precise and rather uncompromising terminology that you will have to get used to. Not crazily complex but unless you do understand what various types of data are called and where they’re stored, it can be frustrating.

It’s all part of their ‘charm’ :)
