Hi,

I’m guessing that the Montage Waveform List (Not Performance List), but the actual 5 GB of Waveforms (AWM2) has not been published yet .

It would be interesting to compare them with the Waveform list of the Motif XF.

If it is not out yet, then hopefully Yamaha will publish it soon.

Here is a link to the Waveform List of the Motif XF (on Page 32 of the Data List pdf).

Motif XF Data List (Waveform List on Page 32)

Thanks,

The AWM2 “list” thus far: (Made up of waveforms BTW)

CFX grand 10 velocity layers
Rhodes gallery (not sure how many variations)
Seattle Sessions strings
Pipe organ
Random stuff from the Tyros 4
All of the Motif XF (redundant/obsolete since the Montage is not the Motif V2.0 but does allow compatibility)

Can’t remember what else but we’ve seen approximately 2.7 million demos related to items 1 thru 4 in the above list and not much else except for FMX.

I hope that Yamaha is holding back like 95% of the really good new AWM2 (waveforms) stuff but somehow I’m beginning to wonder. If you currently own the Tyros, CP1/CP4, Motif XF etc. then you’re probably still yawning (like me) at the AWM2 that has been demo’d thus far. Still missing the 4GB? of the rest of it.

I like the FMX and the other offerings in motion control, etc. I’m still hoping the AWM2 will be astonishing at release.

The Montage Reference Manual and Synth Parameter Manual are now available for download.
Still waiting for the Data List pdf to be released as stated on page 2 of the Ref Manual

Hi --

I just downloaded the Montage Data List PDF, too. Find it on the Montage support page at the Yamaha USA site.

Hurray! Now the real analysis can begin!

And there is also a “Synthesizer Parameter” manual.

Hi --

I just did a quick first pass at a list of new waveforms. To keep things short, I didn’t compare synth and percussion. (Not as important to me as orchestral instruments.)

http://sandsoftwaresound.net/montage-new-waveforms/

The orchestral instruments got a major upgrade. All new waveforms include 3, 4, 5 layers or more and many articulations. Looks good. Can’t wait to hear and play them.

Still wish it weighed 20 pounds or less. :-)

Thanks for that, pjd, I was about to compile a similar list, but that would definitely be less thorough as I’m familiar with the XS generation waveforms.

I think you missed CBassoon in your list?

A couple of observations:
- Steel3 (Guitar) has “picked” and “fingered” variants, both of them with tons of articulations including slap (soft and hard!)
- the CFX piano has no “sw” variant that would consolidate some of the velocity levels into a velocity-switched waveform - so, if you want them all you’ll need to sacrifice at least two parts
- No additional Sax/Trumpet articulations (trumpet falls/doits would be nice...)
- No new MegaVoices that could be potentially used with the Mg-type arps
- Even though there don’t seem to be that many new “standalone” drum-kits, a lot of them are “hidden” in various new performances. The “Drum kit assign” list is really extensive.

Hi Jote --

Thanks for catching that. I found a few more waveforms that needed to be added and updated the list.

Yeah, I kind of expected more trumpet/sax articulations, but nada. It got me comparing the current tenor sax vs. the SuperArticulation Sax on the S950. It sounds like the same set of samples. So, it looks like any further additions to Montage are left for an expansion pack.

Seems like Yamaha didn’t expand the arps much and maybe have lost energy with the whole concept, including new MegaVoices. Perhaps they decided that the pre-canned phrase territory is well-covered by Tyros and PSR?

I’m still pretty excited about the orchestral additions. I hope the waveforms make it into the light weight, lower cost MOXF follow-up. I was trying to find a catchy name for the follow-on, maybe “Montage--” :-)

All the best to ya—pj
