Hey Guys.
I recently picked up an old Motif Rack (classic), and am very much enjoying the awesome sounds it can make. My primary use is for live performance, so I don’t really want to have a laptop setup (although I did pick up a Griffin MIDI interface so I could get my iPad to talk to it).
My MIDI controller of choice is an Arturia KeyLab 88 mostly because you get a GREAT keybed for the money.
So, my first challenge is to be able to easily switch between my favorite sounds (both voice and multi). Presently, I just keep the Motif on the Favorites or Library screens, and that lets me get through the session well enough.
Ideally, I would like to use the KeyLab to switch sounds. So far, I’ve been able to figure out how to switch programs, but can’t simultaneously switch banks, and between voice and multi.
As I mentioned, I also can communicate with my iPad and purchased an app called iGigBook, which is cool, but it wants to send MIDI messages in HEX, and I’m in pretty much the same place as with the Arturia (program changes only).
I’ve gotten fairly familiar with MSB 63 (3F) and LSB 0-4 for banks, but that’s about it.
I also installed a great app called MIDI Wrench (free), and it not only sends messages nicely, but also provides a monitor. So, if I select one of my favorites, it issues a bank change command AND a program change command. Strangely, I can’t seem to SEND the same message from iGigBook and get it to do anything except for the program change. Perhaps there’s a MIDI message to tell it I’m sending a 2nd command?
Well, that’s all I can think of for now.
As always, I deeply appreciate any insights anyone reading this might have.
Cheers,
Tony G.

Welcome to the forum.

Are you saying that the Rack properly responds to a bank change message sent via MIDI Wrench (but not via iGigBook)?

Switching between Voice and Multi is done with SysEx messages.
F0 43 1n 6F 0A 00 01 00 F7 Voice mode (n = 0 for first device)
F0 43 1n 6F 0A 00 01 03 F7 Multi mode (n = 0 for first device)

Read the section of the Arturia manual about the MIDI Control Center software that is used to configure the Keylab controls.

The Keylab can be programmed to send patch bank changes.
