Hello,
Installed mac FW v173, Midi 132, and stand alone editor v165.
My initial hookup via MIDI last night with the Stand Alone Editor and Cubase 7.5 was very enjoyable.

The FW card was installed this morning.
Hook up is via TrippLIte FW 400 to 800 cable.

MIDI is set to mLan in the Utility.

The StandAlone Editor makes a connection and I can audition sounds from within the Stand Alone Editor by selecting presets with Audition button clicked On.

Various Issues:
Can’t play notes with on-screen editor keyboard.
The Motif icon in AudioMidi Setup Utility is grayed out.
The Yamaha USB-MIDI in System Preferences opens but is grayed out.
Same with the Yamaha Steinberg FW app in System Preference.

My firmware #:  1.04.

Downloaded IEEE Firmware Updater V107-2 Mac.
Follow the instructions and come to a complete halt as the Firmware app itself is grayed out, and does not identify my Rack XS.

Now what to do?

Help appreciated.

Which model, mLAN16E2 or FW16E?

It’s a brand new Rack with freshly installed FW16E.
It was already up to date but I didn’t realize that.

The rest of the story also relates to lack of this users knowledge:
- Needed to install the MOTIF-RACK XS Extension V1.6.1 for Mac OSX.
- Had to switch mLAN to FW in Utility>General.

It was confusing as older information relates to mLAN rather than FW.

Bad Mister gave me a masterful outline which easily resolved the issue.

Very happy with this unit!
The Editor works very well with Cubase 7.5, but I’m going to explore the alternative External Instrument set up for use with Cubase 8.

Confusion over the two interfaces and mLAN/FW setting is common, and that’s why I asked which interface you had. I’m glad you got things resolved.
