I just had a quick look through the OM and the RM and the Synth Parameters manual - and unless I am missing it somehow, there is no way to save the status (apart from zeroing the volume -not suitable for the task at hand) of the 4 parts in a performance. Here is the setup: I have four different instruments assigned to a performance for playing when using an audio backing track. One is active while the others are muted. It is set this way so I can dynamically change patches during a song, without said patch change glitching the audio coming in to the A/D inputs. Now the mute status is NOT saved, and if I zero the volumes of the three parts not being used , it means a mad scramble to not only select the part to play, but to then quickly get the volume level correct for the part to be played - not that easy when singing and playing the song! As the Motif series cannot save a “panel snapshot” as it were (like other synths of this type) of all switches and sliders, it would seem that what should be a simple thing is not possible. Does anyone have any tips on this? And I have already looked at using the AF buttons - but I really cannot see how they can be applied to all four voices, and in any case for some the AF switch is vital to the voice (example: Leslie settings for organs to name but one). And there are only two! And on a side note, on the MOXF panel under the main display there are buttons marked in White - that have the legend Assignable Switch? I mean, they SAY assignable, but what can be assigned, if anything?? |

I think Bad_Mister already touched on this in his November 14, 2013 @ 08:09 PM post in this thread:
See the MOXF Reference Manual, page 77, for one application of the [SF1]-[SF6] Assignable Switches to Scenes. Then take a look at pages 97-98 concerning Song Scenes. |

Yes I know -(it was my thread ;) ) However I felt it better to start a new thread as it really was nothing to do with the original topic and the AF buttons as he alluded to, do not accomplish the task at hand, well that I could see in any case. Can song scenes be used with a Performance? I sort of assumed they were all just for midi files and playback? |

hmmm...thx 5pin, your reply gave me more pause for thought - I can achieve what I need by simply using Song Mode - I can set up 4 or five instruments and then change between them dynamically simply by pressing a different channel, and only one plays at any one time! Don’t know how I will go with those tunes that need a split though (eg a comping piano left hand, solo guitar or sax or whatever on the right) |

You’ll find that much the machine is designed to do while sequencing and recording is very adaptable to use in live performance! |

You can set up PARTS in a SONG or PATTERN MIXING on the same midi channel to sound together, and control where on the keyboard each part plays by use of Note Limits. In the final 1/3 of the Article linked below, you can see how this is done. You have up to 16 PARTS to ‘play with’ here, plus the A/D input! This Article contains a lot of useful information you can apply to glitch-free live performance PART switching...whether you want to switch between PARTS that sound alone or are layered or split on the same midi channel to sound with other PARTS simultaneously. |

Great article - yep this will do the job nicely! And I have already checked that changing between parts has no effect on the audio coming in to the A/D part. Happy days - thx again! |

I combined two of your posts, because the replies are related…
Yes, I knew it was your thread. :-)
I thought that the mention of Song Scenes, the sequencer, and “Couldn’t be that you just didn’t find a method to do what you want to accomplish?” were relevant. :-)
Scenes are features of Sequences (Song or Pattern), but they allow you to take a “snapshot” of certain things that you might find useful.
A Performance can easily be copied to a Song. |

thx 5pin - the only disagreement I have is that imo it did indeed need a new thread as it was a completely different topic, only covered in passing - [and then a tad cryptically ;-)] and by having it in its own thread it will make it easier for anyone else searching for solutions to a similar situation. I now have the JM MOXF editor suite, so it will make all this work so much easier and quicker :-) Cheers |

I didn’t mean to imply that a separate thread was unnecessary - I was only trying to bring certain information to your attention.
I’d call it “subtle”. :-) Â I’ll sometimes do that too, when I think the person I’m replying to doesn’t need to have all the details spelled out.
Again, no disagreement.
Please let us know know it goes. |

Cheers m8 - yeah from our private correspondence I knew you were a good guy here. And sorry for not saying it, but I did appreciate the reinforcement of the ideas raised in the other thread :-) LOL - subtle it is then! I will do that re the editors - it is just sooo much easier using the PC - especially with the “economical” screen size on the MOXf ;-) |
