Hey guys,

Does anyone of you have a similar set up ?

What all do I need to install before I plug my n12 to the iMac ?

You will need to ensure that your n12 is running firmware 1.0.3 - this will allow the n12 to use the Yamaha Steinberg FW ASIO Driver. (YSFW)

Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver V1.7.0 for Mac OS X 10.5.8, 10.6.x, 10.7.x

Make sure your n12’s FW IEEEE1394 firmware is 1.07

download.yamaha.com

Select your country
When the Search appears type in: n12
When the Search Results appear SELECT n12

You will see the available items for your n12. You do not need the so-called “n Tools” (they simply bundle the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver with the special Extensions for using Cubase) you can simply download the Driver version you need, as you do not need the special Extension because you are using Pro Tools 9

Once the YSFW ASIO driver is installed on your Mac, the Driver’s Control Panel will give you the version of your n12’s IEEE1394 Firmware

Hey.
I updated the firmware to 1.0.3 . It showed “ please wait until n8/n12 rebooting complete “. However, it did not reboot by itself.
Apart from that, I installed YSFW Driver 1.7.0 and also updated n12s FWIEEE to 1.07

When I open the YAMAHA STEINBERG FW In System Preferences, all I get is a box pop up with greyed out options. The heading says SAMPLE RATE, WORD CLOCK MASTER and CLOCK SOURCE.

I’m stuck :D

When you test the n12 - does it now report that it is 1.03?

This is what I see. How can I check ?
My computer doesn’t even recognize n12 as an interface, even in SOUND options.

Maybe a silly question. How did you connect your N12 to the Mac and/or Keyboard? Are you using Fire Wire?

The instructions that come with the n12 firmware update tell you how to check the version number. It is a combination of lights on the meter - Your n12 must be version 1.03 in order to be seen by the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver. When you said it did not complete (we assume you waited the full 4 minutes it recommends), this prompted me to ask if you tested the version (as per the firmware updater instructions).

Hey, I’ll check that. What is it supposed to show if its 1. 03 ? Is there a reference in the manual ? I’ll just check it out now in the manual.

Exactly what is shown in the attached screen shot in my previous post… (?) Read the instructions! The lights will show exactly as in the picture - that is taken directly from the instructions on how CONFIRM 1.03

Unfortunately, this is what it shows when I check the firmware. ( The last row green and the 4th row from top amber )
Please see attached image.

I cant even get it to work with Cubase on mac now. :/

I have my n12 FW daisy chained to PreSonus Firestudio --> MacBook Pro.

Please guide me through to get it working with Cubase on OSX Lion.

I found that I hadnt put the n12 in UPDATE mode. So it did not actually update to 1.03.
Now that I have done it, my computer detects Yamaha FW driver in Audio Control Panel.
I will try with Cubase and get back to this.

I would like to know how I can get both the FireStudio Mobile and the n12 working together.
As in, use I/O from both the devices.

Other than that, all good now.

What is a FireStudio Mobile and what is its purpose in your setup? Does it have a driver? Does it have a manual?

You will find no manual on using these together, each is designed to be used alone. It is not clear why you think you need them both. You are using a Mac so you can attempt to construct an Aggregate Driver that will allow you to access both unit’s drivers… But you will have to determine whether this put to much of a load on your computers CPU, how many inputs are you going to using simultaneously - just having all these inputs active, even if not in use will tax your CPU, and would a waste of your computers resources if not in use.
