I finally managed to assign voices to a performance on the MX.
However, I noticed that when I call up a voice from my performance, the quality of the voice is EXTREMELY different from when I play the same voice in non-part-select mode.

The sound is much softer and the sustain, release and effects are all different! It sounds really dry like there is no effect applied to it. In particular the Baby guitar voice, I cannot here the wah!

Can you tell us about how you finally assigned a Voice to a Performance, we ask because you obviously think there is some other mode.

What is “non-part-select mode”?

A Voice is always played through one of the 16 PARTS. So when you recall a Performance you are recalling. 16 Voices. Give us a clue what you are dealing with, it is difficult to understand what you are missing.

The quality of the Voice will be EXTREMELY affected by the PART parameters you apply to it. If for example, you replace a VOICE in a PART where a TEMPO CROSS DELAY is assigned as a System Effect, you may inherit these effects… Because unknown to you the Chorus send amount is a PART parameter. And if the previous Voice occupying that location had the send amount set to 75, then you inherit that when all you do is recall a new Voice in that Part.

There is no non-PART mode, Voices are always, always always played through a PART.

So because you preface your question with a statement that kind of says you’re still guessing, we’ll assume you may have inherited some conditions from the previous Performance… And we’ll assume you did not start with an INITIALIZED Performance, right?

We highly recommend starting a PERFORMANCE from an initialized state. Are you using the Vycro MX Editor or are you programming from the front panel?

I am still unfamiliar with Yamaha architecture because I come from another brand of keyboards.

You are right. I did not start with an initialized performance and simply overwrote the first performance.
However, I cannot seem to find an initialized performance or initialize any performance ( I think in the MX you have to overwrite an existing performance).

But I have solved the problem. I was unaware that the MX is only capable of applying insertion effects to only 4 parts. That was where the problem was. Thank you for your help Bad_Mister!
