I tried out an MX-49 at Guitar Center yesterday. As far as sound quality goes, this is truely the ‘Mini-MoX!’ I was glad to find out that the mod wheel controls Leslie speed, etc, just like on my XF. The easy operation reminds me of the Tyros and PSR keyboards. I really like the dedicated transpose buttons, which I wish that Yamaha would include in the next Motif. I did notice a slight difference between some of the drum sounds on my Motif XF and those on the MX-49, but they’re extremely close. I’m tempted to get one of these as a second keyboard for onstage use. The only thing I don’t like about it is that apparently, you can’t edit voices at the element level like you can on the MoX or Motif XF.
