Hey guys,

I have a whole collection of songs in midi format that I have created on the MM6. I am wondering how I would go about getting them onto a cd. I want to make a cd of the tracks with the actual audio sounds of the MM6, but I can’t figure out how to go about it or what I would need. Do any of you guys now how I can make a cd of my MM6 tracks???

I also have all of the user files. I know that there is software out there, but I don’t know how to get the voices of the mm6 on the software. I tried out Mixcraft, and I just am not happy with the sounds, and don’t have enough time on my trial to truly test it out. I was wondering if an external digital recorder would help. I am new to using audio equipment that is outside of a workstation, so any help would sure be appreciated.

Never mind. Evidently I need to get an audio interface to use with Cubase. I have never tried this before. Anyone have any tips on how I should go about it?

Getting into computer based recording can and should be fun. You just need to really figure out on what level you want to get involved. It is really an open ended area: Computer recording

You could get a small system or build the ultimate dream studio. The key is to get what you need without over complicating it. You’ll know you have done this when you are no longer having fun.

:-) I’m saying that with a smile but I’m dead serious as well.

Even with a small system you can open the doors to a larger world. For example, recording audio to a computer from a device like the MM6, greatly expands its capabilities. Here’s how:

The MM6 on its own can play a few different PARTS simultaneously. And that’s it. When you have a computer DAW software recording audio tracks, you can “overdub” - the process of adding additional tracks to already recorded tracks. When you are doing this you can record an unlimited number of audio tracks (depending on the limit of your software).

This process of audio multi-tracking allows you expand on your creativity and extends your ability to record more from your MM and more from other musical sources as well. You can add vocal tracks, acoustic guitars, etc., etc.

The next step is to find out on what level of involvement you want to get started. I recommend going to your local music store and finding out what can be done with a home situation.

Online you can search the subject…
Take a look at things like desktop audio interfaces and work your way up digital mixing consoles. Remember the trick is to get what you can handle, don’t buy something that is way over your head, if simple is what you want, make sure you are clear about that. If you are going to get into this as a serious thing (even as a ‘serious hobby’) then go in with your eyes wide open.

It can be fun!!! There are lot’s of folks having fun with this. Get in touch with your local music store and see when there are workshops in your area.

Here is an article (from the SUPPORT area here on Motifator) that outlines a desktop audio interface and the process of making a CD…

Thank you very much Bad_Mister. I really appreciate your help. I will look into this and see what I can do. I think I want to keep it as simple as possible, but also be serious enough to make the music the way I like it. I am pretty serious when it comes to making music, but I have a limited budget, and that is what holds me back the most. Do you have any suggestions for a program that would be good to use with motif. I would like to upgrade to a MO6 soon if at all possible. The price on it now is so good for what it is. I have seen them for $800. I really want one, and I just don’t have the money to afford anything bigger. If I could I would get the XF. That is my dream board, but for now, if I could upgrade to the MO I would be feeling pretty good.

Hi everybody, does anyone knows

1. if it is possible to vary the tempo for the recording.... for ex first track on a certain speed then slower on the second and then back to the initial one for the third track....... etc ?

2.if it is possible to use the edited sounds stored in the performance memories for the track recording ?

Thanks

Hello Bedjka,

Sadly, it is not possible to change the tempo on the on board sequencer that is in the MM6. I am not sure if it is possible with software or not because I am new to software. However you can record the edited sounds from the performance banks. There is a catch though. You can’t record dual or split. You can record any other type of edited sound though, and you can even do changes to the cutoff, resonance, Attack, and release, and it will record the changes as you make them. Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions just let me know.

Hello Bedjka,

Even though you can’t change the tempo of the overall song, you can easily change the tempo of each track by adjusting the tempo that you play at. If you set a song at 120 BPM then you will have to leave it at that or change the master tempo for all tracks. However, that doesn’t stop you from playing one track at one speed, and then playing at a different pace on the next track, and back to the fist pace on the third. The on-board recording system is linear, and is not a full sequencer, so you have to actually play at whatever pace you wish, and you have to get the whole take right on the track, or do it over until you do. I this price range that is pretty much all you will find in any board you look at. As a matter of fact you will not even find an 8 track recorder on most boards in this range, so I recommend demoing one at a shop to see what it can do for yourself. That’s the only way to truly judge if this is what you are looking for or not.
