Make sure your USB drives don’t feature any COPY PROTECTION software (this copy protection layer usually prevents musical devices from writing/reading data from them… it’s a security “feature” of some drives that you do not want to take advantage of… trust me) That may be the cause - you can check with the maker of the drive. |

You need to remove the U3 apps before the drive will work with the keyboard. Procedures are provided on Sandisk’s website: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2550/~/removing/uninstalling-u3-launchpad-on-a-pc |

i downloaded the U3 removal tool and run it. Followed to insert a smart drive but after that nothing happens. Stuck on “insert a smart drive”. Hope someone can still give me advice. Are all sandisk flash drives have this U3? bcoz mine is a cruzer blade which have the secure access. |

Thanks for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product. With regards to your issue, we would like to advise you to connect the USB flash drive to the computer, backup all the data first, and then try to format the USB flash drive under FAT 32 file system, do NOT check the quick format check box. After format it, try if it can be used in your Yamaha Synthesizer. Please inform us if the solution offered does not work so that we could help you find another way out toward the issue. Please refer to your My SanDisk at http://kb.sandisk.com anytime to see all of your incident history and product registration information. You can log in using your email address as your login and the password that you created. Also, you can visit http://kb.sandisk.com, our online keyword searchable Knowledgebase, to easily find answers to your Technical Support and Customer Service questions for all of SanDisk’s products. Simply enter your search terms and our Knowledgebase will search an extensive database of commonly asked questions as well as our online forums at http://www.sandisk.com/sandisk-support/forums to provide you with the most complete answers possible.

Hate to give you more instructions - as it doesn’t appear you have followed the ones you have received, yet. But once you remove the security software from your drives, format them (FAT) as directed by sanDisk… once you have done that - do not attempt to format them again. Just plug it into the MM, let the MM recognize it and then use it (do not format it again). Those are huge drives for the little MM - you could not fill that drive with MM generated data in a lifetime or three. If you continue to have issues, I’d recommend a smaller drive (much smaller) for use with the MM6. 2GB drive will last you most of the remainder of this century (certainly the decade). ANd if you are not successful, sanDisk asks you to get back to them as they may have other options for you. :-D Do worry, these USB drives while convenient do take some getting used to. If you watch any TV police dramas, you realize that these drives are the most common way to grab data off of the computer and steal away with it. So there are very sophisticated copy protection (security) software that often comes (FREE!!!) with your purchase of the drive… Unfortunately, you are probably not a spy and could care less about the security layers on your USB stick… Copy Protection!?!? I call it “music prevention” because mostly it prevents musicians from using the drive to simply save and retrieve songs. Basically the simpler the drive (less fancy) and the smaller (you do not need lots of memory for the MM), the better. Trust me. If a busy MIDI file is big it could be 70k, average are around 50kb in size. So literally thousands and thousands of song files could be placed on one of those huge drives. The down side is it may take the MM a long to recognize and scan a drive that is large. The MM is not compatible with all drives - and there is a disclaimer, it is compatible with most - again smaller and inexpensive (the less fancy extras the better). It is better to have a bunch of smaller drives that duplicate your work than one big one. I find the larger your drive the lazier one gets about making backups of that data… And when that inevitable crash occurs if all you stuff is in one place, it is a catastrophe. However, the loss of a smaller drive is less damage, over all. And you are more likely to back it up elsewhere. Hope that helps. |

i followed what sandisk told me. They sent me a reply telling me they already run of options. I downloaded a U3 removal software. But the software told me to insert a drive with the U3 and its already inserted. So cant go on with the process.I also followed the instruction to remove the security access option.I deleted the file “runsandisksecureaccess_win.exe”
I have another 1gb thumb drive, and also cant format.Same result. |

Maybe I’m not being clear. Nothing you say tells me anything - try saving a file from the MM as I have no doubt it is empty once you’ve formatted it in your computer. |

i have recorded some songs and settings on the MM6 thats why i want to save it on the USB flash drive.Correct me if im wrong, isnt it before you can use the USB thumb drive, you need to format it first with MM6? that is where im having a problem. When i insert it to MM6,it show “connect” on the upper right hand side of the screen. From the manual it says, press Menu after seeing the USB connect.MM6 then will show a message asking you to confirm the format. In my case, no message appears. There is a note on the manual that if the message does not appear and rather the Load appears on the screen. You need to press the Category (INC)or (DEC)buttons as many times as necessary until the format item appears. And i did that too many times but it wont move but messag always says “no file found”. Am i right to say that before you can use the USB flash drive to save something it needs to be formatted by the MM6?

Today i was surprised to see the SMF MIDI`S i put on my USB,it was read and loaded on the MM6.And i was able to play it too.But MM6 only read the first 400.I loaded around 500.Maybe i need to have 2 seperate USB for the remaining SMF or is it ok to make another folder for the remaining Midi`s.My question now is how about if i only like to save on the USB the 64 performances that i will like to use for live performances, for quick recall of the most commonly use voices, how will i do that? will it be a seperate folder with the Midi`s? and how about the songs made from MM6? Honestly im just doing it trial by error. But it will be better to have some advice and opinions as well.Hope to hear from you again.Sorry for the inconvenience. |
