I have a Roland FP-4F piano and Yamaha MM6. I don’t have a MIDI cable (yet), but I have a USB cable.

Since I could connect both musical instruments to a PC using USB, can I connect the Roland and Yamaha using USB? The USB transmits MIDI signals, so I would assume this is possible. But the manuals only mentioned using the USB to connect to a computer.

I intend to use the FP-4F as the controller and MM6 as a sound module. Has anyone done something like that through USB before? I don’t want to electrocute both machines.

No, you cannot directly connect your Roland digital piano system to the Yamaha keyboard using a USB cable. The USB TO HOST port is meant to be connected to a host (computer) with appropriate drivers installed on the host.

For a direct connection between the two, MIDI cable with 5-pin DIN connectors is your only option.
