I’ve got some sort of signal that is interefering when Pro Tools loads.  If I’m use a Firewire cable from XF or USB from original Motif, and there’s no input (i.e 1/4 plugs) going into my MBOX , I don’t get any hum whatsoever.  As soon as I use 1/4 plugs coming from either my original Motif or my XF, I get a high pitched sound or hum.  If I take the Firewire out of the XF or USB out of the original Mo while 1/4 plugs are still attached, no hum.

All of the drivers are including the MBOX drivers are up to date.  I even tried using my mixer and going XLR into the Mic input of the MBOX still getting hum… Any thoughts..??

Thx in advance

I believe it’s a MBox issue....It’s happening on another CPU as well…

It is not really fair to blame the component - it is a probably just fine by itself. It is the collection (and connections) of items used together that is the problem.

The noise is most likely due to ground issues - and is related to when your computer drive is accessing data. In other words you will notice a change in the pitch as the computer is asked to do tasks. If you want to blame a component… well, I did say it would not be fair… This can be eliminated - there are really good articles on this in Sound-on-Sound Magazine

http://www.soundonsound.com/

If I find the link to the article I’ll post it, but if you search there about “ground issues” you may find it before I do.

Thanks, I bet your correct.  If I’m on-line, I get a different sound/signal through my headphones for each site I visit...Or, whatever new window I open up.

The Mbox doesn’t use a plug, only USB for power so, I’m at a loss.  I will visit that site and see what’s what.  If you find something, by all means post, and again thanks…

Update:

The hum/noise is gone.  I recently brought my Mbox to a different location and had two different power plugs hooked up to my monitors (one with a ground and one without).  I turned on the monitor that used the plug without the ground attached and there was no hum.  Then i switched the plug (same monitor)to the one that had the ground attached and the hum returned.  Just to be sure I used the groundless plug and hooked it to the other monitor; no hum.  So I hope this helps anyone who had similar issues with the Mbox.  I know it was/is a common problem with the Mbox 2.

So, yes BM, it was a ground issue.  As your brilliance once again has been confirmed!!
