Hi,
when playing live with my band I assign one pattern for each song. I don’t use master mode because I like to be able to switch sound by pressing the 1-16 buttons during songs.
Now I’m thinking about adding a Nord Electro 3 to my rig.

My question: Is it possible to send program change messages to the Nord (or any other external keyboard) when I change the pattern in my motif. I know that it probably would be possible by recording some messages in the sequencer and then start/stop the seq between each song after I have change to the correct pattern but I would be very happy if there was an easier way.

Regards / Mattias

Disclaimer: I have never tried this, but the manual indicates it’s possible.

If you call up your patterns using Master mode, you can specify program change messages to be sent for each zone in the Master. Since you can have 4 zones per Master, you could send PC msgs to 3 external devices as soon as you select a new Master.

If you won’t be playing the external device from the Motif keys, just set up zones outside of the 61 key range.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

The thing is that I don’t want to use Master mode since I want to be able to switch ES6-sounds that I play from the ES-keyboard using the 1-16 buttons. Is there another solution?

Regards / Mattias

You don’t want to use the mode designed to do this, and you don’t want to use the sequencer to send the Program Change… Hmmm…

...no.

Hi again,
does anyone know if there is any way to browse presets of an external MIDI unit (Access Virus C in my case) using program changes while the Motif ES is in pattern or song mode.

There is a way, but it’s complicated enough you probably will not want to use it.

It requires you to tweak the PC messages using the Event Editor screen, then stepping up and down through the events (as each event is selected it is sent).

For example:

1. create a new event defining a PC msg (bank MSB, bank LSB, program number) in the appropriate track

2. edit this event to change the program number

3. step up and down through the event list to send the edited PC msg
