just came from guitar center, spent about 2 hours checking out Mox (and XF). Mox6 and XF8 were side by side so i could compare them a bit.

(The MOX6 Key Feel is just like m-audio keystudio 49 midi controller, kinda cheap)

The MOX has much less performances than I thought, much less than XF.

Another thing a bit disapointing is when searching for performances in category search mode, after pressing Enter to got to main disapley out of category search the MOx kinda stops for a second and some sounds kinda hang than it goes to main performance display.

Voices I gotta check again, I spent alot of time comparing them to XF and they seem to sound a bit different, I think it just seems to sounds different, so I gotta check it out again.

Dear Kinda Sorta-

The Mox6/8 costs less that an XF.  You know that?  Why would you expect the Mox to stand up in a 1 to 1 to an XF?  Not to mention that it is based on the XS-not the XF.

Keys just like an M-Audio 49 key.  I have both.  No way.  The keys are about what you’d expect to see in a $1200 keyboard-no more/no less.

Trouble is with so called comparisons-they are NOT ever the same keyboard. People know that (supposedly> Yet they make these conclusory statements that are unsupported by the facts or already know by looking at the specs.

So what do I think?  On a dollar for dollar basis-it’s much like the top of the line PSR’s 740, S900 etc; only done in synthesiser syle instead of keyboard style.

Excellent feature sets and really good value & performance for the money.  What more could you ask for?

If you your looking for XF features-buy an XF.  What’s so hard to figure out about that?

I too just got back from checking the MOX out at G.C. in my case, there was an XS Rack right next to it.
So I configured them for A-B comparison best I could. I thought the MOX sounded a slight bit more mid-rangey, the XS a small bit more solid, a tiny bit more highs and lows, which may have added to a ‘purer’ sound. But quite close. My guess is that the 64 note polyphony limit on the MOX makes it grab voices occasionally, and though you really DON’T hear something dropping out, it might thin the sound up a bit. Or else (and I have nothing to base this on other than my experience, what I’ve read, and what the comparison sounded like....) the chip may be a bit slower, and they may have it programmed to process data differently - however it’s the same fantastic sample and voice set, just slightly different processing. BUT that’s ONLY a GUESS. For $1200, and at 15 lbs. it’s an AMAZING product. I just may not trade my XS Rack in to buy one… The other big lack for me, is no sliders. There are tons of knobs and buttons, which are very thoughtfully designed, and anyone who’s used any Motif in the past, will feel quite comfortable with the MOX. But I don’t think there’s an easy way to reblend the elements with the sliders the way my old Classic does. True, you can mute Elements very easily, over on the lower right side of the unit. But some drawbar (organ) simulations really benefit from those sliders.
So to summarize, if you’ve never had a Motif, this is a great way to get one!

I tend to agree with the previously posted comments. I likewise spent 2 plus hours in a quiet Sam Ash Store. The MoX is a smart cool keyboard. But for “my ears” there is some sonic intangible quality missing in the MoX and makes the “XS” the way to go for me as a performing musician. Maybe its an electronic audio component or something else technical,… design wise. But I do know “XS” owners and “ES” owners should kiss their keyboards because they will deliver fully sound wise where it counts....on the stage.

I have had my mox6 for 3 weeks now and totally enjoying the MOX experience
I also have a motif XS rack
And I slave the MOX from the XS rack
I am using a MO6 as the keyboard for the XS rack
No disrespect for the MO6
They marry together beautifully
Yes I know they share many patches and performances and some features
But I reckon the MOX has a better sound than the XS rack

I am an amatear studio musician who just enjoys the pleasure of music
Anyway I am having heaps of fun intergrating them both together.
You get the flexibility of heaps of polyphony and enough arps to last you a lifetime,in addition there are also the soft synths
But even without having the XS rack the MOX has plenty to keep you entertained for a lonnnnnnngtime

one happy Mo
