In the MOTIF XF the new piano sound is announced as “Natural Grand S6”. Is is based on the same samples as in the S90XS / S70XS or is it completely new?

It uses the same samples as S90XS / S70XS.

...and while we are at it: the other grand piano sample is the well known “full concert grand” from motif xs - or has something changed?
I am interested if some of the “bread and butter"-sounds were also rebuildt for the new XF. the other way round: what did yamaha use the doubled sample-rom for in detail?

The other piano samples are the same as the XS. Yamaha’s goal was to have 100% compatibility with XS sounds, so even the voice programming in the Preset banks is the same. My understanding is that there are 128 new voices and 128 new performances found in User banks (can’t remember which ones at the moment).

so it seems to be best to wait for a sound list in in the manuals soon to come…

The Motif XF will load ES format samples and XS format voices, so the existing XS voice upgrade should work fine for the XF. At this point, I do not plan to create a new file for the XF.

while waiting for the manuals and data list,

can anybody tell us how many and possibly which

classical piano preset and samples are found in the new XF?

The ES and XS only had 3-4 piano presets, which were really too few.

There were 25 piano voices in the XS (21 in PRE1 bank plus 4 GM pianos); USER1 bank on the XF adds 4 more voices from the S90XS which are based on the S6 grand.
