Cubase AI 5 is isted in the Options/Accessories for the Motif XF.. what does it mean, exactly?

Accessories
Cubase AI 5
Cubase AI 5 is a special, compact version of Steinberg’s famed music production system.

I didn’t quite follow the recent developments with the Cubase AI - is AI 5 a free software upgrade for the AI 4, or you have to buy this upgrade?

Will Cubase AI 5 ship with the XS as a free companion tool, just like the Cubase AI 4/4.5 did, or will it be a downloadable/buyable upgrade?

When the Motif XS came out in 2007 it shipped with Cubase AI4 - that was the entry level version that was available. When the S90 XS/S70XS started to ship last year they shipped with Cubase AI5 - that was the version that was available. When the CP-series stage pianos shipped earlier this year they naturally ship with the current entry level version of Cubase (Cubase AI5)

Cubase AI4 is an entry level version of Cubase 4 provided with Yamaha hardware purchased during its time in the marketplace
Cubase AI5 is an entry level version provided with Yamaha hardware purchased since the introduction of Cubase 5

Cubase AI4 like Cubase 4 is no longer available. Don’t make this into something more than it is. It is simply a matter of what entry level software is available at the time.

There is no upgrade path from Cubase AI4 to Cubase AI5 - (?) nor does there need to be. The upgrade path is always to one of Steinberg’s commercially available music production softwares:
Cubase Essential 5 / Cubase Studio 5 / Cubase 5

It could be worse...my ES came with SQ01.

SQ01 was far ahead of its time - it fully integrated Synth Editors into the program so that when you saved a file it saved your synth setup and all the Voices (sound familiar).

In fact many of the innovations you are used to seeing now started in SQ01 - started with OPT (Open Plugin Technology)
Open Plugin Technology was the germ idea that launched the Studio Connections concept of hosting a series of hardware editors (synth Voice editors, Multi-Part editors, Plugin board editors, digital mixer editors and effect processor editors) and linking them to the software you are using to record.
(don’t hate it, it was simply ahead of its time).

:)
