My suggestion is that you contact directly the distributor of Steinberg products in your country and determine the current policies re educational versions, and then get it in writing. There have been numerous policy changes both in pricing and whether educational versions can or cannot be upgraded in the future, and if they can at what cost, so it’s best to be sure before you buy. Policies have even varied form version to version. It’s safer if you obtain current policy information and information on any restrictions directly from Steinberg, rather than via user forum. You may also have to provide proof that you are a student or teacher directly to the distributor. In the past, a retailer sometimes was not allowed to do that...it had to be the distributor. Anyway, those are my suggestions. :)
Currently an educational version of C5 is exactly the same as the C5 ‘commercial version’. The differences relate to cost and perhaps upgrade restrictions such as a higher cost to upgrade.
You can obtain more information here and here for example ..........frank
