I backed up my XS8 with a USB disk.

When I try to import and view what I backed up in the editor, it loads the file but does not update any of the patches.
Everything remains Grand Piano.

Dont know why the blatantly obvious must be so darn difficult with the XS8.

Let’s see if we can determine what the problem is…
What Type of file did you save? What’s the file extension?

Which of the Editor’s “File” options did you use - “Open” or “Import”?

.XOA

I tried both import and open.

I dont know the Editor is all wonky. I import a .XOA file and it says it imported a .XOE file.
It changes the extension once imported.

I’ve never experienced such a problem, nor heard of it before.

Once Motif XS All *.X0A is chosen from the “Files of type” dropdown menu, and the file itself is selected, the data is loaded to the Editor.

If you post the exact step-by-step procedure you’re using, perhaps it will become evident where you’re going astray.

Open “> select file from folder > enter
Import “> select file from folder > enter

Nothing more.

Probably have to find a different version of the software.

Open “> select file from folder > enter
Import “> select file from folder > enter

Nothing more.

If that’s really all you’re doing, then the data from an “All” file couldn’t possibly be extracted by the Yamaha Editor.

Clicking on “Open” opens a window entitled “Chose a document to load”. Near the bottom is “Files of type”, where the default is “Motif XS Editor Files (*.X0E)”. However, clicking on the down arrow there opens the dropdown menu where other file types, including “Motif XS All Files (*.X0A)” can be chosen. If you’re not doing that, then of course your X0A file data won’t load.

Hopefully that will help.

Of Course I did all that it is too trivial to mention.
I select the .XOA file and when it opens the editor shows the correct filename but with .XOE extension and I have no patches.

Is there any archive of different editor versions I can try.?

The “trivial” is usually where problems lie and get resolved. Since you apparently have no patience for that, and think your time is more valuable than mine, I’m done.

Fair. free advice is free advice with no strings attached I appreciate it.
You always helped me a ton, and I was very thankful\, but if someone gets all worked up like this for no reason it usually means they cannot solve the problem or know it exists but dont want to disclose it. Neither I think is the case with you, but only you know the daemons behind your aggravation.
It sure isnt me.

I will assume XS8 editor is a bugsnest as it even changes my file extensions when loading a file and in fact clearly is bug ridden and I can demonstrate it repeatably, but there seems now to be a nice stopper put in that.

I will find a different way without the editor.

You are the only problem I’m avoiding.

You are obviously not following your own advice. You still answer.

Amazing that a person that helped me so much and who I respected a lot, turns out petty and triggered like this.

Anyway follow your own advice please. Say and do (at least).

This is obviously some strange usage of the word ‘respect’ that I wasn’t previously aware of.

Please do me a favor and never comment on any of my posts asking for help.
I do not need or want your advice anymore.

Since we ended up with nothing in common and by your own wishes, want to “avoid any contact”.

Let’s both avoid any future problems by not posting in each other’s threads.
I will keep my word and not post in yours.

I rather have no answer to my questions than having this again.
