Hi -
Can I start a sequence or song by pressing a key down, and then perhaps assign a different song to a different key?

A Pattern Chain can be started by pressing any key. See (8) Keyboard Start on page 210 of the XS Owner’s Manual (http://download.yamaha.com/file/10074).

Another approach could be to record Songs as WAV files. They can then be triggered by certain keys in a drum kit. See this support article:
